We were unsure of traveling during the pandemic but have received the vaccine so we felt fairly confident. We booked our trek with Joy Climbers because they are local. The experience was great for it was affordable and staff was really great. We had Frances as our guide and he was very caring an attentive. He made sure we were doing well throughout the trek and provided with a safe environment. Although, not all reached the summit because of the conditions it was ok. We felt safe and two of us were able to reach the peak. It was definingly not easy and a very long day. However, staff was so positive and motivated us to reach the peak. Can't say enough about the hard working people on Kilimanjaro. They did everything to get us to the summit. I would recommend that travelers bring gear that you can leave for porters as they have minimal gear. Thank you so much to Frances and all the Joy Climbers staff for the wonderful experience, would highly recommend them to anyone! Gracias!

I did the 7 Day Machame Trek and 4 Day Safari with Joy Climbers. The staff was great and very hard working. The food is more than you can ask for and kept us well fueled. Everyday the porters would pass us up and setup our camps. The journey was tough but not impossible. With the positivity of Joy Climbers guides and staff they really helped to push us to the summit. Summit day was definitely hard but make sure you train and prepare for the long hiking night and day. It was definitely exhausting. 4 day safari was great as we were able to see the big 5 game animals. Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti were great animal habitats and truly amazing. Joy Climbers staff was great and it was nice to support the local people. They attended to all of our needs and the trip was as described. Thank you to Neema and Godwin for they took care of all the details. High recommend Joy Climbers when climbing Kili or if you want to go on a Safari!

JoyClimbers made traveling up Kilimanjaro a safe and enjoyable experience. Francis is a fun guide who is very engaging and also happy to take you on an insider tour of Arusha after the trek. We did the 7 day Machame trek and felt safe the entire time. The three guides made sure everyone was safe getting down which is surprisingly hard to do! I would def ask for Francis and Florence as well as Akshey if you’re going to go. The food was amazing and you were never left hungry. The porters are impressive as well and help to ensure your safety and make sure you have a wonderful experience. Kilimanjaro is hard but definitely requires a knowledgeable crew. They convinced me that trekking poles are important and were definitely right about that. They check your O2 sat. They are vigilant about any slips and falls and rushed to my aid when this happened (fortunately this didn’t ruin my trip and was secondary to my clumsiness). When one of my co-trekkers had some early signs of HACE at the top he was descended quickly by one of the crew members and was safe. Additionally, they made sure we were able to get to the top by having some of the porters bring our bags on what was the hardest of the days. I cannot imagine there is a better group to go with. It is well priced, comfortable and with knowledgeable talented crew and I’m so happy I was with that team of porters, cook and guides. Definitely pick joy climbers for your trip!!!!

Joy Climbers Expedition (JCE) is a phenomenal tour operator for climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. We (5 people) contracted with JCE for the 7 day Machame route in February and we couldn't have made a better choice! JCE made such an unforgettable experience by focusing on (1) safety, (2) success, and (3) fun. Climbing Kilimanjaro is not without risks. Altitude sickness is a real issue and prevents many climbers from reaching the summit (just google route success rates). If you are going to spend all that time and money to get to Kilimanjaro, it makes sense to maximize your chances of summiting. JCE takes several steps to both anticipate and meet the high altitude challenge. First, JCE recommends training programs for cardiovascular fitness and high altitude exposure. Second, JCE performed twice daily health checks for symptoms, oxygen saturation (don't worry it's completely noninvasive) and makes sure you are taking your altitude medication. Third, JCE always made sure guides were with us at all times; they know the mountain better than you ever well and kept on eye on us. I know maybe some of this sounds like, of course I would expect any outfit to do these things, but take it from a group of doctors (3/5) that the systematic and complete way JCE goes about safety is extremely important and the sign of a professional and well thought out organization. It may sound corny when JCE says it but really "safety is #1." To further emphasize this point, when 2/5 of our climbers experienced acute altitude sickness at the summit, they were whisked down by guides immediately. JCE made sure to maximize our climbing success. They helped us with packing strategies, clothing selection, and pacing. When members of our group looked fatigued, they even carried our day packs. I would recommend training harder than we did, but it's good to know this is an option. During summit night, guides even carried our packs. Our guides told us that by day two the knew every one of us had the potential to summit and they were right! JCE were fun, supportive, and available guides as well. They made sure we were as comfortable as possible--serving us coffee or tea IN OUR TENTS in the morning, preparing pretty excellent camping food, and even pointing out interesting flora and fauna as we ascended. I cannot imagine anything I would change to make the trip better. I want to specifically thank guides Florence and Frances for an exceptional trip. All members of JCE went above and beyond to give us the best experience possible. Additionally, given the extremely competitive pricing for JCE, I would give them my highest possible recommendation and advise anyone who is hiking Kilimanjaro to go with Joy Climbers! Good luck!

Amazing 7 days trip up the Machame route with a group of 5 of us. From when first met them in Arusha, their professionalism and focus on our safety and making the summit was very apparent and appreciated. They even carried our day packs during the summit to make sure everyone summitted (which we did). This was just one instance of many where our guides helped us out above and beyond the mountain standard. Also, the meals were great and we learned a great deal during the voyage from the guides who were also a pleasure to talk to and become friends with. A huge thanks to our guides Francis, Aclae and Florence. Our whole crew of porters (especially Isaac and Fate who carried my girlfriend down 1,500m from the summit when she was light headed). In short, I would recommend this tour to any friends and family looking to do this trip. Everyone was fun but professional, relaxed but very safe.
