We were not allowed to go inside and no pictures. So our guide took us to the front of the building and explained the history of the intricate work on the ornate doors. The color green, representing a Muslim color was on the roof of the nooks all lined up and serves as an epic icon for this imperial city.... More

This is the resting place of one of the kings of Morocco whose surname was Ismaili. He was a direct decendent of the prophet Muhammad PBUH. In this mausoleum you can view his tomb, his son's tomb as well as inscriptions on the wall showing the names of the prophet right to his name Ismaili. A must for all tourists... More

The mausoleum is a wonderful piece of oriental architecture. The decorations in the mausoleum are impressive and of incredible detail. The access is free, but it might be closed now (april/may 2016) for restauration. When we were there the works were about to start.

Besides its beautiful architecture, lovely decor and quiet interior, the mausoleum is memorable because in order to reach it you go through a maze of bare, simple, bright, yellow, high-walled, peaceful spaces. To me the outside/inside contrast was deeply satisfying..!
