I guess you have not been to Marrakech when you have not been to this square, a hustle and bustle especially in the evening! It is the gate to the souks!

I was not so enthusiastic in going to the souk without a guide in fear of being bothered by kids asking for money, people forcing you in their shops.... No one bothered us!!! It was so pleasant . The snake charmers were doing their thing,...More

A world heritage site, plan to spend hours people watching and then shopping!!! You can have a freshly squeezed juice, purchase EVERYTHING Moroccan from the Souks and spend half a day watching people go to and from.

Think of it as live-action channel-surfing: everywhere you look in the Djemaa el-Fna, Marrakesh’s main square and open-air theatre, you’ll discover drama already in progress. The hoopla and halqa (street theatre) has been non-stop here ever since this plaza was the site of public executions...More

Visited the square on several occasions, and it is far better in the evening when the rooftops come to life. Bustling, loud, colourful, great smells - it is a must see. Be careful not to touch the animals from the street venders as they can...More

Just for its iconic status do you need to visit but beware of the snakes!!!! Early evening is the best time to visit before it gets too crowded.

I've been in another markets before in Agadir, Essaouira, and Rabat and all the shopkeepers made fun about Marrakesh ("you can come in and take a look, we won't grab you and chase you for miles"). I always thought that it was just a common...More

Yes - you should be fine. Very busy but perfectly safe if you keep your wits about you. Have a great trip. I would happily go back and plan to at some point.

We pretty much walked to it however we did take a taxi twice to some other places and felt safe. You could ask your hotel to organise a taxi for you as that's what we did. But when in the square you need to be persistent and... More
