Leather tanning is the major industry in the city. It’s definitely worth a walk through this neighborhood.

Some other reviews on here suggest that they thought they were going to going somewhere else. It is a tannery, so yes, it is going be smelly and not particular pleasant to look at but it is part of the Moroccan culture and way of...More

The hype of people saying "go to the Tanneries" made me want to go and see it all that more. However the Tanneries are relatively easy to find, a guide will find you before you find anything. They are a short excursion but worth a...More

This is not something I've experienced before. The smell of the sheep, goat, & camel skins being put through the process is intense. They give you some fresh mint to press against your nose (as an air freshener) - but its still really gross. There...More

We went to these tanneries and a overly friendly guy insisted on accompanying us to tanneries and wouldn't take no for an answer. He claimed no money etc and continued walking alongside us. The tanneries are public property and after we quickly walked around, he...More

Very interesting. A lot of hard work goes into the leather. The end products are amazing. It has a very pungent odour. Perhaps not for those with a week stomach

avoid this place at all costs, it's a den of lies, scams and thieves, they will try and isolate you and make you buy overpriced goods you do not want, being called a racist for not buying anything was quite unbelievable. Watch out for youths...More

This is a very different area with lots of different types of leather tanneries. It's easy to find to the NE of the souls but people will insist on helping you and then ask for money when you've done. You are also steered to expensive...More

Okay, don't believe the fairytale about the Berbers who will come to the Tanneries, but you can read that everywhere. It is an interesting (but awful smelling) place to visit, where you can see how the Tannery process works. Be aware of the people hanging...More

The tannery in Marrakech is not a place I even wanted to visit. That said, my friend and I got talked into checking out the tannery because a young man, who told us all about how he had lived in Brooklyn for three years, bla,...More

I agree with the above posts. The tanneries whilst interesting and rather smelly are not worth the hassle you will get in trying to find them and more importantly the sales tactics which are the most aggressive in Marrakech.
