Yes the Tanneries smell but what really stinks is the scammers that take you there. Even if you told them several times that you do not want their assistance they will persist and ask for money at the very end. Being hassled for money does not bother me as much as it does others, guess I have been hardened to... More

Knew this place from our riad owner, and he told us it's free to visit, if there is anyone show you around and ask for tip, Dh20-30 will very enough, so we went. It's not as famous as the one in Fes, so couldn't know where entrance is. When we were near the tanneries and had puzzled face, one local... More

It was quite interesting seeing the Tanneries. But we quickly realized that the whole thing is set up very strategically by all the locals. We were told to just go take a look, just go around the corner, they only do this once a week and today is the day. Well conveniently someone found us, took us to someone else,... More

If you enter the medina in the north easterly side you will come across the tanneries - and avoid walking through the medina to them with people offering to 'guide' you there. They stink! Worth taking a sprig of mint to waft in front of your nose every so often! But really interesting to see the Arabs and the Bergers... More

The smell is ok, unless your the sensitive type. It's a 5-10 min walk from Ben Youssef Medersa. The tanneries are correctly located on google maps, so just pop your smart phone up and follow the blue dot. Locals will harass you - 100%. You've got two options as I see it: 1. Follow them, engage with them, let them... More

We didn't end up at the tanneries like most people did. We hired a taxi to take us to the gardens and got talking to the driver Kojak who is a school teacher but drives on a weekend too. We asked him about the culture of Morocco and after answering a few of our questions he offered to take us... More

In the medina a random 'guide' offers you a trip to the tanneries, and I was curious. So I joined, impressive to see but the goal of this tour is to rip you off. He wanted €20,- for a 10-minute tour. Just give €2 (or nothing) and walk away!

Our experience of the tanneries was very similar to many of the previous TA reviews… A very persistent chap supposedly on his way to work at the tanneries and holding a piece of leather (for effect) insisted he showed us the way (although we said no). We had, at most, five minutes being shown the process, complete with the ubiquitous... More

Some other reviews on here suggest that they thought they were going to going somewhere else. It is a tannery, so yes, it is going be smelly and not particular pleasant to look at but it is part of the Moroccan culture and way of life, so if you get the chance to pay the place a visit - go...
