About
Welcome to Toubkal Adventure Expedition. Trekking is one of the very best things Morocco has to offer. All of our tours travel to remote, off the beaten track areas, and to traditional Berber villages populated by friendly local people living a life that’s changed little over hundreds of years. If you want to trek in Morocco during the summer, head for the High Atlas to climb either Toubkal (4167m) North Africa’s highest peak, or Jebel Mgoun (4071m) North Africa’s second, or both. In the winter we head further south to walk in the Anti-Atlas or Jebel Saghro ranges. This is a popular option for those new to trekking or looking for a gentle one week holiday which combines the best of rural Morocco and the vibrant city of Marrakech.

We enjoyed an excellent walk with Mohammed down the valley from our hotel above Imlil village. The route took us through several Berber villages and terraced orchards of walnut, cherry and apple. Mohammed was very informative and kept us entertained with his knowledge. We stopped for refreshement at the waterfalls in the valley before climbing back to a Berber guest house for a lovely lunch on the terrace overlooking the valley.

We brought our family (kids 4 & 7) to Imlil and we were professionally guided by Mohammed to the Cascade Waterfalls and beyond to a Berber house for food. We had sturdy shoes and despite the cool morning, we were warmly welcomed and set at ease by Mohammed’s honest and friendly character. Both my kids were taken by the hand where the path gradient steepened, across wooden bridges and across the valley on an agreed length of walk (1.5-2hrs). My youngest took him by the hand nearly the whole length of the hike, forming a close bond, and we all trusted him throughout. Pictures were taken and information shared as if we’d known him a lot longer than a couple of hours! After arriving at the lunch destination, we were greeted with what was the Best Tagine Ever! Another one elsewhere did not even come close to the hospitality shown to us on our day on what proved to be a wonderful introduction to this region of the Atlas Mountains. Thank you Mohammed! George says Hi!

The tour was a lot more than expected.
Our guide was the very knowlegable and passionate Muhammed and the driver Saeed who skilfully navigated through all kinds of terrain.
Our trip was customised and was spread over 10 days. We covered Essouira. Agadir, Marrakesh, Azrou, Fez, Tanger. Blue City and Rabat. The pace was leisurely, with stops for photos/ meals. The country is amazing with its varied landscape and stunning views.
A good guide I believe made a big difference. I strongly recommend Muhammed.

WOW WHAT AN ADVENTURE! This trip far exceeded my expectations on how much fun a multi-day trek could be. Summiting Toubkal was just the cherry on top as the whole trip was amazing. Our guides were not only very friendly and knowledgeable, but good hosts as well and took care of us in camp. Highly recommended trip for anyone who loves the mountains.

As two ‘seasoned’ women, also seasoned international travelers, Morocco was a fascinating experience for all senses…sights, smells, food, temperatures , and even the various sounds. Each sense could be felt wherever we travelled. We were fortunate to visit Marrakech, Merzouga desert, Fes, Chefchouen, and Casablanca, which we visited in 6 nights, 7 days. For future travelers, we would recommend 8 to 10 days, depending on which city would interest people the most, and where relaxing would be preferred.

Both our guide and driver appeared to be well known and had good relationships in each of the cities we visited. Their punctuality and anticipation of rest breaks were appreciated and kept us on schedule. Our driver was very skilled on the challenging road conditions, and his thoughtful manner was appreciated. Our guide appeared to be well versed in the country’s history, and landscapes with some descriptions shared along our travels. However our curiosity had us asking many questions and often we felt unclear of the answers and on some occasions fact-checked to better satisfy our understanding of a place or landmark. Perhaps our rushed agenda, resulted in less enthusiasm demonstrated by our guide, contrary to other on-line reviews.

We anticipated a clearly defined daily itinerary, which was not provided, resulting in handoffs to city guides which were unexpected. The guides however, were excellent and very informative.

As to transportation between cities, we expected a higher standard of vehicle comfort that would’ve included air conditioning vs windows rolled down in the high temperatures of Morocco. A more comfortable vehicle was mentioned in other on-line reviews.

For anyone considering a 3 Star riad/hotel, we used a North American standard to guide our choices. While we enjoyed the authenticity of our accommodations, others may prefer a higher rated hotel. Specifically regarding the Merzouga desert stay experience, it would be important for travelers to get specific details on the ‘basic tents’ vs the other accommodation options.

We also suggest googling cultural differences including appropriate wardrobe, tipping for meals and guides, and ensuring having small Moroccan dirhams on hand for small purchases, including water, etc for daily driving and excursions, not included in the tours.

We highly recommend a visit to Morocco! It is a captivating country to explore. The more research you do, the more you will enjoy your visit!
