This is one of those places that is on the must see list - but don't stay too long and take the mint! While you walk towards the tanneries you will begin to smell the cleaning of the leather and all the leather products. Personally, I can't stand the smell. At the door the give you a handful of mint.... More

Try getting in to one of the leather shops, in order to get a good view of the leather tanks. Camel leather is of great quality and you can find a lot of products to buy.

I have bought a leather jacket in this place. They have great specialists if you like leather and handmade fashion.

The whole process is a science. It's a must visit in the medina. You go into a small door and climb winding steps. They give you mint to sniff on but u must carry a scarf just to cover your mouth and face that helps too. The colors of the dyes is a must see from the veranda. Then you... More

This is one of those places that is on the must see list - that doesn't mean you have to stay there very long. It was fascinating however to watch the workers doing their tanning and the learn and understand about the process of leather being dyed. The smell is awful - I can't imagine what it would be like... Incredible to see all the colors and how the the leather gets tyed. You get to the opportunity to purchase a leather product, if you like a certain color or design they will have it custom made and deliver it to your hotel in a 4 hour period. Great selection and fantastic quality.

You will never look at leather in the same manner again! The intensive physical labor needed is heartbreaking. An interesting fact - camel leather has a distinct odor that will not go away over time. Purchased a man's wallet for $10 as a gift - it was a winner!
