Amazing place. Mighty old buildings, winding narrow streets, amazing courtyard houses. Some well kept, some run down. Algerians have a tough job in protecting this UNESCO World Heritage Site. But surely they are trying.

I’ve visited the Casbah twice – – once with and once without a guide. The guide immeasurably enhanced my enjoyment and understanding of this fascinating neighborhood. Without a guide you are reduced to wandering around the mostly poorly marked streets and asking directions – –...More

A symbol of traditional and authentic Algiers (and of the war against France from 1954-1962) with narrow streets on a hill, dead wall houses, very old mosques. The most of the houses need renovation.

Folklore place, safe and easy to walk, accompanied by a local guide of course. Small houses, narrow streets and a very interesting oriental atmosphere. But the place needs restoration to be clean and a worth to visit.
