It is interesting and possibly worthwhile for the views. There are MANY MANY stairs to climb, and views of the neighborhoods are exceptional. The intricate alleyways offer many interesting doorways that I was enthralled with. Couple of heads-up warnings: People do not want to be photographed. Also most of the stairs have been dug up, and there seems no plan to fix them. You need to be aware that the falling and breaking bones is a real possibility.

Beautiful old buildings and Palaces going back to the pre Ottoman's era of Algiers, the Ottomans then the French Occupation and the More Modern Times.
Some buildings have been standing for over 1000 years. Don't forget to visit The Great Mosque, the New Most and Mosque of Keshawa.
The area is getting more attention and requires further cleaning and more facilities.
Great history and interesting to see where the famous Fan Affair Incident, actually took place. The incident used as an excuse to invade Algeria.

Kasbah of Algiers is what you need to see to feel the real taste of Algiers, narrow streets, nice building, busy environments are so nice

We toured this with a guide for over 2 hours. Very interesting, lots of history involved. However, it is very dirty with trash everywhere, typical in Algeria.

At some point in time I believe this was a more or less magical place, but let’s be honest. Extremely few houses are kept in any kind of decent conditions and garbage everywhere. For sure, it’s still interesting to walk around but it’s just such a pity that nothing is done to keep the houses etc. In a condition that will leave this are around for many more years.

It is one of the reason to be in Algiers. You must be lost in narrow streets of Kasbah to feel time suspended. There is a places that you want to be back in every country. In Algeria Kasbah is one of such places.

I happened to visit the Casbah on the wonderful, sunny 1st of January and the place was bustling with activity. I have no idea if it was in any way related to the New Year, but occasionally it was difficult to push through the crowd around street vendors. On the other hand, there were still many narrow passages where I was practically on my own. Yes, many houses are in poor repair and it's a pity little effort (and probably money) is put into restoring it. But just the same, the Casbah is beautiful and enchanting. A must in this beautiful ciy.

Many people say that you can't walk alone in the Kasbah, but that's not true. In the daytime, you can walk freely and explore on your own. Just keep your wits about you and turn back if you feel uncomfortable. It's such a shame that the government has let these beautiful buildings crumble. Several older people came up to us and said, "You should have visited a long time ago, it used to be so beautiful here,."

I spend amazing day around Casbah, i did guided tour, so i received huge amount of historical information and like that everything got more sense. I recommend especially palaces and Arab caligraphy musemu. Love that place! I REALLY REALLY suggest to do it with guiding tour, you will have more fun, they will look after you, so you can relax and you will get authentic experience with great connection to Algerian history.
