An hour of easy hiking and rainbows ! 6/22/23
The Lifetime Senior National Park pass got us free admission for an easy hike down to Mesa Falls (State Park) where rainbows are abundant. The longer hike to Lower Falls allowed Jaclyn to get up close and personal with a deer. The gift shop/museum takes a few minutes, and the restrooms are always appreciated (especially when the offer running water).

    worth it for gorgeous views!
We viewed gorgeous the Upper Mesa Falls, stopped in at the visitor's center to learn about bugs and historic artifacts found there, participated in the hands-on experience to feel two dozen or so pelts, and bought some postcards in the gift shop. Then we went to the Lower Mesa Falls for more beautiful scenery and had a picnic lunch in the shade. We found a single picnic table between the street and the parking lot, down in the trees.

Great place but poor admission process
We’ve visited many times in the past and always enjoy the amazing experience. The falls are breathtaking and the platforms located right at the brink allow the viewers to experience the roaring power of the water. We always plan a stop here when staying at our time share in Island Park. Our only negative is the way the payment process is structured. You have to park your car, get an envelope, fill it out, put your money inside and then return it to the dropbox. And, you need exact change and a pen to fill things out with. We watched an elderly couple struggle to make the payment today while several cars were waiting in line. We felt so bad for them. Up the admission fee a few bucks (it is only $5 now) and hire an attendant to take the admission fees. And better yet, let the 80+ travelers in for free.

    Nice addition to Yellowstone trip.
We arrived early and rather than rush into the park we decided to check out some other local attractions. This was a great stop. Easy walk along the boardwalk to a very impressive waterfall. Well worth the drive.

Nice small town. We actually love going to the little flea market on the main street. It’s manned by different charitable groups each week. While it’s not a huge store, we always find a variety of treasures here. We’re on vacation and stay at an air B & B; if there’s something we need for our stay (like a kitchen utensil or some other item), we can find it here. There’s also some other interesting places to go to here.

Mesa Falls is not too far from Ashton and perfect to go visit. Grab a picnic lunch, a lawn chair, a good book. After visiting the Falls, you can spend the day there chilling out.

And of course, a view of the Tetons is just a mere 30+ minutes drive away. There are spectacular views across the valley as you’re driving southeast.

The Upper Falls were magical, and it was a very short walk. A few stairs are involved. Very quiet and peaceful this time of the year.

This is an amazing place. The Upper Mesa Falls is the more breathtaking of the two and there is a very short walk down the boardwalk to get close to the Falls. It is about an hour south of West Yellowstone, where we stayed and we loved the scenery and the Falls.

An incredible place that was recommended by a waitress; the falls and surrounding area is as beautiful as anything we saw in our week at Yellowstone!
