The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

Can you say WINDY? Oh heck yeah. Beautiful view. Awesome ride to get there and turning right out of the parking to Chinaman's Hat is breathtaking, but not white knuckle. It is very windy. Hold onto your hats. I would suggest a light jacket or...More

We loved our visit on a very windy afternoon. I was surprised to see so many wild chickens, eggs laid among the roots of trees around the parking lot, and the incredible cliffs on both sides of the overlook. Plenty of parking, some products being...More

I love this place, the view is beautiful, the wind spectacular. It make you feel like a kid as you pretend to be superman, or just having your hair blow in the wind. It is typically not crowded and there is a small fee for...More

Wow, this lookout was amazing. It took us a while to find it, but scenery was just great. Worth the time to visit.

· If you are headed to the Windward side then this is a must stop. · Awesome and beautiful views of Kaneohe and Kailua. · This is about a 15 minutes stop. · Parking $3 for non-residents. · Happy Hawaii Days ·

Only 5 miles away from Honolulu city centre, it's very popular to tourists as well as to locals too. Not far away from the parking area, the path is easy for everyone but there is a number of steps up to the stone terrace. No...More

Beautiful lookout! I don't believe they should be charging for parking just to look but it is Hawaii and they overcharge for everything it seems lol That being said it is a beautiful view and worth the stop .... and the parking $

This is an easy trip 15-20 minutes from Waikiki, and the views of Kaneohe are great. It's definitely windy but that is part of the charm. We did this on our way to the Windward Coast and its worth an extra 30 minutes of your...More

We stopped here on the circle island tour. It was a windy, overcast day. As a result the views were not at their best & the wind was very strong where the lookout is exposed. On a clear day the views would be spectacular so...More

Visited Nuuanu Pali lookout while on a recent visit to Oahu. Quite windy and cold, but amazing views. Worth the visit.

Yes you can take Uber or Lyft up to the Pali Lookout. It would be rather expensive depending on where you are starting from. You would also probably have to pay the parking fee. Renting a car for a day would be easier and... More

I think it's just an "honor system" to pay if you decide to stop, park your car and walk up to the overlook. No charge for just driving through.
