This is a lovely boat ride with some historical information and some touristy entertainment. If you are adventurous a kayak tour may be more interesting

On an island where every excursion is expensive it is refreshing to go on a tour packed with entertainment at such an affordable price. For approximately $50 our family enjoyed a boat ride filled with music, dancing, and hula lesson. There was a beautiful walk to the fern grotto and a great picture taking opportunity. Best money spent for and... More

The Fern Grotto is a truly magical place and really Hawaiian. As part of a tour, we had a small cruise on the Wailua river, and then headed to the Fern Grotto. Along the way on the boat, we had a family which formed a band, and was wearing traditional Hawaiian costumes, who were playing typical music, whilst one of... More

I think it was about $18 or $20 / person for about 1.5 hour boat trip. It was a rainy day, so nice activity to do. They play music and sing in one direction, then give guide information in the other. You stop at the Fern Grotto area, walk on a good path into a viewing platform for the grotto.... More

We took this tour after visiting the Waimea Canyon. The river ride and visit to the Fern Grotto was a great way to wind down a busy day of sightseeing. They provide a very scenic ride up the river and the grotto walk is not very strenuous so it was perfect. We would recommend it to everyone.

We have visited Hawaii many times, but always on Oahu. This time we took a 7-day cruise around all the islands and one of the shore excursions was a visit to the World Famous Fern Grotto which was a location included in one of the movies Elvis made. You get there by river boat on the Wailua River Cruise. From... More

Maybe a little pricey at $18 for an 1 1/2 hour adventure. It's still a nice smooth boat ride up river to the Fern Grotto. There is a little Hula show at the grotto and music to emphasize its acoustics. The boat captain gives a little narration of the river history and the flora and fauna.

This is a great value to leisurely walk through the Grotto. The plants and trees are labeled. If you have an interest in tropical plants,it is a good way to spend a couple of hours.
