There was a band on the boat with wonderful singers who performed and hosted the boat ride. It was charming and a mellow and pleasant way to travel to the grotto. The staff were all lovely and funny. It was a quick, beautiful afternoon activity. We loved it!

We rented a canoe from the little Hawaiian village and paddled the short 5 minutes upstream to Fern Grotto. It was a really short distance, but the canoe "parking" was very limited- and there was only 1 other canoe there! The little walk to the grotto was really pretty with lots of red flowers. The grotto itself wasn't too impressive... More

Did this trip just over a week ago. Not worth $20 & I wished we had spent our time & money elsewhere. There is very little to see @ the Grotto because ferns have been decimated by a hurricane.

After riding the Smith Family boat to the Fern Grotto landing, you are met by other members of the company and accompany you on the short walk to the grotto. Arriving at the Grotto, we were met by even more company members, who gave a history lesson of the area and a short song/hula exhibition. Due to possible danger you... More

We took the Smith family river boat ride to Fern Grotto. The boat was covered so even though it rained the whole ride up, it was comfortable. The tour conductor talked about the flowers, wildlife, and history that we could see during the ride. Then we walked up a short way to the lovely Fern Grotto; sometimes people get married... More

Very interesting and entertaining. Almost feels like you are in the jungle. The scenery is lush and green and the Fern Grotto has excellent acoustics. You are serenaded by local musicians who are quite entertaining. Very nice place to visit.

Take a boat trip up the river to see the grotto. The trips have an explanation one way and a musical entertainment the other. The river trip is very interesting. If you feel energetic you can hire a canoe and go by yourself if you want. Once at the grotto it is about a 15 minute walk to the grotto....if... More

The trip down the river in the boat listening to Hawaiian music live and great live commentary. Arriving at the fern grotto a short walk apparently lots of weddings occur here. Relaxing and pleasant.

Took the boat ride to get to the grotto, nice and relaxing journey that takes about 20 minutes. After leaving the boat there is a 5 minute uphill walk but not too strenuous. Once at the grotto there is a talk about its history and a group of singers with traditional music. You cannot enter the grotto anymore due to... More

Only accessible by water, the fern grotto is a beautiful garden. It boasts of different flower-bearing plants with the grotto itself having hanging ferns. The short cruise was entertaining, along with a hawaiian presentation at the grotto. Even without the mini-show, it was still worth visiting if just to walk around the sanctuary and discover beautiful flora.
