Kauai is the oldest of the five big Hawaiian Islands geologically. It has canyons, grottoes, rain forests, high elevation swamps, steep coastal cliffs formed by wind & wave action, and some of the most beautiful carbonate beaches in the world. On an average day there you see several cycles of light rainfall for short periods, each followed by elegant displays of rainbows. After several cycles of water buildup, waterfalls suddenly appear with all their full radiancy. Rainbows & Waterfalls! That’s Kauai!

Very scary beach park. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and picked up some poke at a famous spot but they didn’t have tables so we thought we’d find a beach and have a picnic. Found this on Google maps and decided to check it out. At first it was one, we found a picnic table, thought it had kind of a lot of trash but enjoyed the water view. Then my husband decided to walk towards the restroom pavilion and I noticed a guy in his car looking very sketchy towards me. I started walking towards the restroom to find my husband and noticed the large picnic pavilion had tons of homeless people in it. As soon as I turned the corner into the restroom I was greeted by a deranged woman lying on the floor, obviously on drugs. I ran back out to go towards our car, and then I saw a man driving with a dog chasing after him, who proceeded to take some kind of BB gun (I’m hoping that’s all it was) and shoot the dog chasing him. (The dog didn’t get hit and was fine). Could not believe how scary this whole thing was and that we didn’t notice how bad it was when we first got there. Would NOT recommend any tourists coming here.

Tourists looking for different beach to explore. Going in it was very scary, there were several people living cars giving us menacing looks. We drove in, turned around and drove right out!

Hanamaulu beach is only for Hanamaulu locals or seasoned travelers -don’t come here if you want a trendy place /but come here if you want to relax and experience Kauai before it became trendy-this is a place that resists becoming trendy,it’s rugged beautiful in a raw way and there are people living here ,they are good people and won’t bother you -

This park could be very nice, but there are homeless camps, junk and trash everywhere, and meetings that look like drug dealings. It’s really too bad they let this otherwise nice spot let go. Oh, if you like fighter jets coming and going, this is the place for you to watch them!

Okay definitely sketchy to get to this park. There were locals here didn't seem too friendly, pretty sure drug deals were going on. Cars stopping and going, guys cycling around. If this stuff wasn't happening it'd be an alright place just watch for dog poop. Pretty private place except for the sounds of roaring planes above.

This is a nice local beach with very few people. It is fairly protected so my guess is that it is fairly safe to swim most of the time. It has a sandy bottom, a picnic pavilion and bathrooms. It is close to the airport so the only downside is that airplanes and helicopters fly over regularly. It was a nice spot to enjoy lunch.

This was won of the most picturesque beaches when went to. Small waves. Blue water. There is also an outlet of a river forming a fresh water lagoon. The shore goes out a long way before becoming deep. At the time we went the water visiblity for about 2 feet so the snorkeling was minimized to a few minutes. The swimming was great though. The only downfall was the amount of cigarette butts, bottle tops, and other trash on the beach and in the lagoon.

I found this little cove to be picturesque and beautiful. The main thing that I did not like about it was that they allow homeless to permanently camp there. It does not feel safe because of that. They surround themselves with junk cars and trash. The beach and water were wonderful other than that. Really Kauai? Maybe you need to address the homeless population before it begins to drive away your main source of revenue which is tourism.
