The trail in is worse than advertised. We rented a lifted jeep and it performed AWESOME. But, I would not do that again, too many what if's could happen. Green sand is amazing, but, you have to hike down a sheer cliff face to get...More

Went with our kids. Started our hike at 10:30a and it took us about an hour one way to hike to the beach. It is a dusty walk along the cliffs but the views are amazing. I would recommend tennis shoes or hiking boots and...More

It's about 2 hours drive from Kona. At some point a paved side road takes you to the most southern point of the island (and the U.S.). It's a nice drive. Once you arrive to the start point of the trail to the Green sand...More

Very nice hike, beautiful scenery and totally worth it. Once you make the hike you're able to go down and relax on the green sand beach or swim. Expect lots of people to come up and down the trail to/from the beach. The hike can...More

Worth going here, but avoid all contact with locals. Very very rude people running a questionably legal business of hustling people in the parking lot to give them rides to the destination, and there are only two port a potties that they have a monopoly...More

We drove for hours to see it since it is one of only four green sand beaches in the world. Once we got there we paid 30 bucks for two people to be driven down by locals. If you visit let the locals drive you....More

This is the second time I've been to the green sand beach. The first was about 17 years ago and I remembered it being amazing. Luckily my memory was correct. I would recommend foregoing the ride there via the locals as it appeared incredibly bumpy...More

We were driving south along the Hwy 11 enjoying the scenery and vistas, mango, pineapple farms. little kiosks selling a variety fresh fruit produce from these farms along the southern most point of Hawaii, in fact, the southern most point of USA. A side road...More

This was one of the best highlights of our trip. The path to get there isn't dangerous in anything 4 wheel drive unless you are a complete and utter fool. Drive slow and low. If you are super concerned, follow the guys in the pickup...More

How late are return rides available from green beach to the parking lot. Do the ride providers charge for one way at a time?

The cost is for roundtrip. Our driver asked us how long we planned on staying. I am unsure how late the drivers hang out for. We were there mid am. As they are just locals, there is no "open/closed" time. We stayed about an... More
So if you want to stay at the beach for a longer time (1 to 2 hrs) how lucky are you to find a truck going back to the parking lot? And what hours are there NO trucks?

You could make arrangements with someone in the parking area for a specific time to pick you up before you head off hiking. Times are random. They basically wait until they have a full vehicle to make a run.
Where do you go to met up with the locals offering rides?

Yo cannot miss them they are in the only parking area for the beach which is a few miles away. Your GPS will get you to the parking area and they will meet you as you drive in.
