Banyan Drive in Hilo is anciently picturesque and somehow trendy and contemporary at the same time. The massive Banyan trees loom large over the setting, making it feel almost otherworldly...if not for the traffic and the drunken college students hanging about the parks. You are...More

The Banyans here are huge and so beautiful. They have been around since the 1930s so its impressive how large and old they are. Its interesting to see all the important historical figures who planted these trees, including Amelia Earhart, Nixon, FDR and Louis Armstrong.

Never thought of myself as a tree lover but I've fallen in love with Banyans. Just something about the far reaching hanging branches suggests peacefulness. A walk or drive in this area really mellows out your day.

Time almost stands still when you drive down Banyan Drive! The sun peaks through the hundreds of branches creating interesting patterns on the street below. The ocean trade winds are captured in the canopy of leaves and the unmistakable smell of saltwater is ever present....More

We stopped to go for a walk along Banyan Drive because we'd heard it was a popular, historically significant street that was worth visiting in Hilo. Sure enough, we were able to see dozens of HUGE banyan trees, planets by celebrities and politicians of the...More

This is where most hotels are. Very nice pond. Great hotels. Some good restaurants. And a nice walk. Great little detour.
