We spent about an hour there and saw a wide variety of tropical birds that have been rescued from the pet trade. There were various macaws, toucans parrots and other species. Most will be released to the wild. You should make a point to visit here if you’re in Copan Ruinas as it’s very impressive.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 January 2023

Birds feed at 1200 so be at the cafe where you’ll be surrounded by macaws. Had refreshing dip in the river at the reserve.. access bit basic. Thoroughly recommend a visit here. Great value for money and a short cheap tuk tuk ride from centre of copan.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 March 2023
- TravelingFamilyTripChicago, Illinois209 contributionsWorth seeing if you have time while in CopanWe enjoyed this more than I thought we would. The birds are really great to see, and I appreciate the mission of the place -- it started by taking in birds the owners couldn't have any longer. It's nicely laid out, and the admission seemed to be a fair price for the nice experience. We took a tuk-tuk to & from town and that worked out great. They let you be photographed with some of the birds at no additional cost, which was pretty fun.Visited January 2023Written 18 May 2023

View the magnificent birds, some already out of the cages. There are some other birds to see: owls, vultures, toucans,…

If visiting the ruins well worth a visit. As we understand the sanctuary is doing a lot for the preservation of rare Honduran birds. With these strong ethical reasons it’s money well used. A very short journey from the middle of Copan Ruinas

Macaw mountain, aside from being a beautiful place with countless birds is a nature conservation program like no other. They work under the premise of the four R´s: Rescue, rehabilitation, reproduction, release the birds (macaws, parrots etc)
Definitely a must try if you are in the Copan Ruinas area. They have amazing baleadas too!
I just had one issue with them charging my credit card twice but I will call them and I´m sure they will sort it out.

The bird park is up the road from the school where I work. The park is a must-see here in Copán. While most of the birds are in aviaries, there are several beautiful macaws that are allowed out of their cages and they let you get close to them (for taking pictures). I've seen some of these macaws land in trees at my school, as well as downtown near the central park.

I loved the consept of this bird park. The park is a lot bigger than it looks like with a lot of birds. In one area they fly freely. All signs are in spanish and english.

We had a choice to make - the hot springs or Macaw Mountain on our one day in Copan. I think we made the right decision as we really enjoyed this bird sanctuary. I didn’t think we would stay very long but about 90 minutes just flew by. It’s a very nice nature walk and you can even paddle in the stream before you leave. Well laid out and so many beautiful birds. This is a must visit if you’re in town to see the Mayan ruins and have a little time to spare.
Tip - a tuk tuk from town will cost $5 but have the driver wait for you and pay him the $10 round trip fare when he drops you back in town/ at your hotel.

Was in Copan visiting the Mayan Ruins and this place came highly recommended by another visitor. Having an extra day in the area we visited one morning and were lucky to be guided by the owner / founder, Lloyd Davidson - who turned out to be a fellow Tennessean like us! What Lloyd and his staff have been able to do with these beautiful creatures is amazing - highly recommended if you are in the area
