this is the most impressive plaza in Guatemala by far. It exceeds Antigua's which most American's like. The buildings are attractive architecturally and well preserved.

The buildings surrounding this area are great. The church is beautiful as well and watching the people feed the pigeons is fun as well. If you are looking for gifts you can find some nice items here

Quetzaltenango is not as bad as I expected, and its central plaza has potential, fringed with a succession of facades ranging from Baroque to Neo-Classical. The square is teeming with local wanderers and little stands selling pigeon feed, fried food and cheap jewelry. A few monuments are also interesting to look at, particularly a round structure with Doric columns. Unfortunately,... More

If you're wondering where the youth of Xela like to hang out after school, or where local families enjoying taking a walk around together, you've found it. Parque Central is located next to the official offices of Xelaju, in addition to being in the center of various banks, museums, and a smorgashboard of restaurants (both local and commercial). You will... More

Lots of people watching and old architecture. We happened to be in Xela during the feria of Rosaria - there were hundreds of food stalls, street puppeteers, souvenir stands, kiddy joy rides. It was such a festive time to take in all the activity. Were were so lucky to experience the fun!

Quetzaltenango is the most European of Guatemalan cities, including some fine Italian architecture. The Municipal Palace and other edifices that surround the plaza have a distinct European vibe, if a bit downtrodden. It is not heavily touristed and is thus peaceful to explore. Coming upon Quetzaltenango after having experienced Antigua, Lake Atitlan, Chichicastenango and Santa Cruz del Quiche we were... More

The park is nice, plenty of benches and coffee shops all around, unlike places like Antigua people let you be and aren't trying to sell things all the time. Nice for walks and people watching.

This place has a nice chill to it. Great for relaxing and as a starting point for your day. It's surrounded by the municipal building (recommended to visit), the cathedral, a museum, banks, a market and hotels.

The Central Plaza was great to walk around. Beautiful architecture, foliage, and statues. A bustling area to spend some time. There are little cafés and shops around the outer edges of the Plaza and some vendors around the inner (some food carts and souvenirs). Plenty of taxis.
