Well worth sticking around Chiquimula to hike up to this gem. It's easy to get to - just grab a colectivo heading to Agua Blanca & ask them to drop you off at the Volcán, or get one to Ipala and another one on from there. We hiked the volcano on july 2016. Hike was not very difficult and took is about an hour. There is another route that can take directly to the top by vehicle(4x4). At the top there is 3 lookout stations. The villagers offer food at a reasonable price. Camping is also available and you can swim in the lake. On weekends... More

This is a very beautiful location. The volcano is filled with water creating a large lake that is very nice and very cold. The volcano is only accessible by a pretty intense hike. The hike is steep so wear good shoes and bring water.

This is by far one of my favorite volcanos in Guatemala. This review is from the second time I visited it: Climate. The climate is hot and dry most of the way.
