    Lovely Reserve, TERRIBLE Roads
This is a lovely forest reserve in the Cayo district with plenty to see and do for a long day-tour. We visited Caracol, Rio on Pools and Big Rock Falls. The road conditions are appalling so either have a 4WD with experience off-reading or just hire a guide. No, there is not ambiguity around that.

    Get your Rio On!
It’s hard to rate an entire forest, but we enjoyed our ~half day tour with Pacz tours (thanks, Brighton!) to the area. We did the big 3: Rio Frio Cave, Rio On Pools, and Big Rock Falls. The cave and the pools were particularly cool. It was low 80’s (F) and partly overcast, so it took a little coaxing for me to get in the pools but was glad I did, and acclimated quickly. I was also really glad I had my water shoes because those rocks are slick! There is a short but steep walk down to Big Rock Falls, mostly on wooden steps with a rail (but not the sturdiest, and some missing or loose rungs). Because we weren’t pairing this with Caracol, we seemed to miss the crowds and had several times to ourselves. At least the version we did didn’t really involve “hiking” per so - I would’ve been interested in some of the trails, but the tour companies probably know what they’re doing sticking to the water features (I suspect the trails would be hot and dry).

A wonderful free day of exploring
Loved the waterfalls, swimming in the rivers and exploring. Do note the the road to 1000 foot falls is +++++ bad and needs 4x4 and is really difficult to drive on. Don't try it in the rain. The Rio Frio cave is huge and needs a flashlight for exploring other than your phone. Whoops! A wonderful full day of exploring and adventure here in this park!

Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Preserve is exactly what its name states: miles and miles of nearly undeveloped pine forest and rugged hills, offering many natural attractions. Plan to spend several days exploring the sights of the area.

Neil and his lovely wife made out stay at this cozy resort well worth it. The meals that he put together were amazing. I've traveled the world and he has some amazing pizza as well as the shrimp ceviche. The cottage we rented was also amazing....more than enough space for my family. This is a must book if you're in the area.

On weekends Rio Frio Pools are crowded with picnickers and families playing in the pools. We went on a week day, and the place was virtually empty. Rough roads are being improved, and a bathroom/changing facility has recently been added. The covered viewing area/picnic tables were wonderful! We would love to return to this place.

We visited the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest with our excellent bird guide, Eric Tut. (Highly, highly recommend him - check out Birding in Belize, Paradise Expeditions.) The road getting there from San Ignacio is fairly rough in places (partly due to construction and partly due to poor road conditions.) The area is pretty and undeveloped. We used the Slate Creek Trail to walk out to an overlook that had an incredible view for miles. With the help of our bird guide, we saw birds ranging from the rufous-capped warbler and ivory-billed woodcreeper to the slaty-tailed trogon and king vulture.

Mountain Pine Ridge – untapped, uncrowded and natural beautiful. Getting to mountain pine ridge is not the easiest, but once there the drive becomes all worth it. You get to enjoy nature in all its splendour as your surrounded by lush pine forest. It’s a nature lovers paradise. Your day is consumed by going on nature hikes, birding and chasing waterfalls

Hi - on behalf of the group I just want to say thank you to Emil Gamez for an an amazing excursion at the caves and 4 waterfalls at Mountain pine ridge. We had so much fun!!!

You and your company, Bird Trekking, Belize delivered really well and exceeded our expectations.

It was my first ever trip within Belize where I had a tour guide and I must say I would surely do it again and I will recommend your service to everyone.

Thanks a lot! 🙏🏾🙏🏾

Went on birding tour with Paradise Expeditions. Great birds but mostly a respite from the flat, humid, bugginess of Latin America. (although look out for the no-see-ums at 1,000ft Falls)
