Baron Bliss Lighthouse is a lighthouse in Belize City. Established in 1885 on the former site of a Spanish fortress which was extremely damaged after the Battle of St. George's Caye in September 1798,
It is named after one of Belize's greatest benefactors, Baron Bliss, who is known to have never actually set foot on Belizean shores but was impressed with the people's warm hospitality. He was a sailor and fisherman who traveled the world aboard his yacht the "Sea King".
On March 9, 1926, Baron Bliss died leaving instructions that he be buried in a granite tomb near the sea, enclosed with an iron fence with a lighthouse built nearby. This is why this monument was constructed (in remembrance of him) and also why his tomb sits at the base of the lighthouse where it stands today.
Bliss left $2.0 million Belizean dollars in trust for Belize, which still spins off income for charitable projects in Belize today.

Be sure to walk around the light house and read the inscriptions for additional details about the light house. This is just beside the Belize sign so you can see both at the same time.

In a nice quiet area of the city (though not far from downtown at just about a 10-minute walk from here) is this about-medium-sized lighthouse which is not much of a remarkable structure in itself but one I'm sure is a "distinct landmark" of Belize; and just in a very close vicinity to this lighthouse is also another national landmark which is not just a simple sign spelling out the name of the country but one consisting of nice-sized letters each with a different color; and yes quite a nice photo-op is one with both the Lighthouse & the Name Sign along with the "wide-open sea" right behind them (by standing beside the Name Sign and taking the pic in like a diagonal position with the Lighthouse at the back). Also likely a good timing or such was being here at about 3 or 4 pm when the sea was like "a sheet of silver sparkles" created by the afternoon sun as seen after going up the short stone wall near the Lighthouse (really somewhat of a "unique scene" I would say to enjoy from this relaxing location with actually also like a cafe just across the street from the Lighthouse although not having tried it myself).

And not right next to it like the 'Belize' sign but just at about a 5-minute walk away from this lighthouse is a memorial park or such (a "somewhat sizeable" rectangular lawn area) with some few cannons & national flags and also a number of these "small multi-colored" structures likely some storage facilities (and a good view of the park from the small round-shaped pavilion or such on the lawn).

In interesting cities such an attraction as an ordinary lighthouse appears on 4,5,... TA's page. Here in Belize it appears on the first.
This speaks for itself - it's just a quite simple and ordinary lighthouse few meters from another "outstanding" attraction of the Belize letter sign 300 m south from the port.

Not much here, but easy parking in the area and a great place to meet for tours. We met here for two tours.

Were on a horse and carriage ride touring Belize City and stopped at the colorful BELIZE sign nearby, then stopped quickly at this beacon. Our guide gave us the 2 minute rundown on the man it was memorializing and then we left for remainder of tour! Don't remember much as it didn't seem memorable!

Located next to the large and brightly colored "BELIZE" letters on the water, this lighthouse seems unique. We did a quick drive-by view of it on the way to the pier.

Across the street are a few food vendors so the best way to see a few Belizean sites would be to visit the BELIZE letters, walk 50 yards to the Baron Bliss Lighthouse, then get a quick bite to eat, including ice cream. You can do all of these things within 30 minutes.

This short walk was a nice change from the über touristy cruise ship terminal. It was certainly work the few minutes it took to get there.
