Its a wonderful place. You can have a pleasant walk here and feel like you are in woods even though you are in middle of city. Well maintained and its quite a place if u wanted a very long walk. Other than lack of huge parking space I feel it is very well maintained and good place to jog or cycle.

The Big Creek Greenway is one of the best things that Forsyth County has done in recent years. It is a wide paved path with boardwalks and bridges along Big Creek. It turns unaccessible swamp and bottomland into a path for walking, jogging, or biking.
The path has parking at the north near the Polo Fields and in the south off of McFarland. The trail is probably 8 feet wide so couples can pass without bumping.
We park at the Fowler skate park and take the spur to the trail. This stretch runs along the Big Creek with ponds and swamp areas. Their are several bridges to cross the creek. We’ll see ducks, geese, and deer here.
Although popular it isn’t crowded, and it always feels safe.
We avoid it during hot mosquito weather but it is a joys when cooler.

I have been going to the Greenway for almost 20 years now. I go to bike, run, walk, rollerblade, bird watch, feed the fish in the pools, picnic, and just decompress.
At the Kimball Bridge road access - Rock Mill Park - you have bathrooms, a bike rental station, a bike repair station (tools), picnic tables and pavilions, and ponds.
The Greenway is about 7 miles long from end to end and this spot is in the middle. The path is about 10-12 feet wide and was built alongside/over the local sewer system (that's the huge cisterns and occasional bad smell you can come across).
North on the Greenway, up behind the YMCA, off the trail you have an easy mountain biking trail perfect for beginners.
South on the trail you find large concentrations of deer. And at the furthest points down by Old Alabama Road you have more bathrooms and a selection of mountain bike trails for all levels of experience.
They have incorporated call boxes along the entire length of the Greenway.
When there are heavy rains the paths are closed off because Big Creek floods them. A day or two after the waters recede, you are more likely to come across turtles and snakes on the southern side. After that, everything goes back to normal.
In the early evenings/late afternoons I have been treated to the sights of hawks and owls hunting in the trees.
I have been told there are coyotes along the Greenway but I've only ever seen red foxes. I have walked/run/biked the Greenway alone at all hours and have never felt unsafe at any time. To please my husband, I have consented to carry a tiny canister of pepper spray but have yet to need it for any purpose.
The Greenway is a real gem here in Alpharetta. The only bad things - Occasionally you have ugly pet owners who don't cleanup after their dogs or control them as you run/bike by. And then you have the totally clueless stopping and taking up the entire pathway often with children laying down their bikes on the path. And of course, since its such a great bike path, occasionally you think the Tour de France is holding trials there.
Anyway, if you need to get out of the house and get some fresh air this is THE place to go. BUT!!!! Don't leave stuff visible in your car for people to steal!!! Yes, it can happen here and has!!!!!

Quiet , safe , and comfortable walking-way. The only problem is not convenient to find the toilet on the way.

This is the trail my husband and I frequent. The path is paved and divided for both directions. Very walker, runner, bicycle, skate and skateboard friendly of all ages. Parents with children on tricycles, we've even seen a few bicycles built for 2.
It's pretty level and follows "Big Creek". The area is heavily wooded with very interesting seasonal changes. It's a floodplain so after a heavy rain the creek which is pretty large anyway turns to a fast flowing river. It's fascinating to watch the ever changing growth patterns of not only the flora but the creek banks as well. There is plenty of wildlife to keep an eye out for as well. Every time we're there we spot deer, if your a birder there are lots of opportunities to capture sightings. We've been there in the spring (the flowering trees are wonderful, summer so green! after a snowstorm so peaceful, fall brings beautiful colors and cooler temps. The trail is for the most part shaded under a nice canopy of old mature indigenous trees.

We were taken here by some locals. We found it to be a great place to walk/run. The path is well maintained and marked. We loved walking along the creek. The parking lot had clean bathrooms which was a plus after a long walk.

Nice area to walk or ride bikes. Can get busy on weekends, so keep watch out for people riding bikes to fast and dogs that are not on a tight leash.

The greenway is great for locals or visitors who want to get away from the hustle and bustle, while not having to go far. Paths are in great shape.

My first time...I parked my car at Rock Mill Park and went left toward the YMCA (ascending order). Rock Mill has restrooms, water fountains, and a bike maintenance station. From there, the greenway stopped rather abruptly at a parking area a few miles in. I was on my bike; apparently, you can get in a 16-mile loop. I consulted a map later and it looks more like 14. Also, the stop is where the greenway is disconnected from its counterpart on the Forsyth side. It’s a decent trail. I felt safe and saw diversity. I’ll go again...with a better plan now that I’ve consulted a map.

This trail has lots of shade and several rest stops. There are also several entrances and ample parking at each. Careful when it rains, there is often flooding and can get muddy and slippery.
