This place truly is beautiful but it gets too crowded and all the rednecks and gapers are completely inconsiderate and destroy the beauty.

Kind of challenging going up, but worth the trip to Crater Lake. Plan on 3 1/2 to 4 hours too hike it round trip.

I have hiked this trail many times over the years. Wear good hiking boots because there are lots of rocks and boulders, otherwise enjoy!

After being dropped off by the bus, took the short walk to the lake at the bus area/restroom/water station and decided to take the trail to Crater Lake. Trail was wet, slippery, had lots of loose rocks, and very crowded with lots of people. You...More

The hike to Crater Lake takes you to the base of the Maroon Bells. The hike is about 4 miles round trip. It is at altitude and can be strenuous if you are out of shape but it is worth it. Go early as it...More

Taking a hike up to Crater lake in late September is really unmatched for aspen viewing. The entire hike is surrounded by aspens and when in their fullest golden glory, it is an absolute must-do and bucket list type of thing. What an amazing place....More

Our hike took longer than unexpected and was definitely rougher than we thought it would be. In September, Crater Lake is rather dried up. Some of the scenery was beautiful along the way with the aspen changing leaves (September 11). We also saw several mule...More

If the Maroon Bells entrance is closed when you are there, you would not be able to do the hike. From the park rangers station, its a good 3 miles drive into the parking area for Maroon Bells. Then a 10 minute hike just to... More

There is a parking lot at Maroon Lake. During the summer you can drive up before 8 am. After 8 am it's by bus. The hike to Crater Lake starts here. In May it took us an hour and a half because of snow.

It took us about 4 1/2 hours to make the complete circle, and we' went really slow. I think most people were completing it in around 3 hours.
