Slightly more trying then I thought, but worth every very rocky step, even the rainshower did not deter us from reaching the Crater

A moderate 4 mile round trip to Crater lake is certainly worth it. The trail is very rocky so make sure you have good hiking shoes. Trekking poles will also help. The view of the lake was amazing. I was there by 8 am at...More

Outstanding natural beauty area we got dropped of by bus at Maroon Lake, where you can start multiplt hikes from. It is a lovely an easyish hiking area that we fell in love with and there's lots of animals like pikas and yellow bellied marmots...More

We arrived at 620 am and the parking lot was almost full. You can only park before 8 am or after 4 pm. It is worth going early when there are not many people on the trail. You feel you own it. It starts to...More

About 4,000 steps hike both ways on a reasonable, intermediate grade, trail. A few hundred feet of climbing. The lake itself is nothing special although the hike is fun and the views spectacular Also, the weather can change rapidly - we had brilliant sun shine,...More

If there were no Maroon Lake, Crater Lake would be spectacular. Unfortunately, the early morning reflection of the Bells in Maroon Lake sets an impossible visual standard. But Crater Lake is lovely, the 4-mile trail is scenic, and it's worth the journey. The hike is...More

The Trail was kinda rocky for a lot of it. We did enjoy eating our lunch at the lake, although had to do it quickly because of the flies. If you go past the lake towards the water fall, it is a hidden gem. I...More

Worth the time to hike up to this beautiful lake! Not particularly difficult and absolutely breathtaking! Much prettier than the lake below at maroon bells!

A rocky and steep hike - at least for amateurs like us. Once we arrived at Crater Lake my youngest said, "That's it?" But we ended up hiking another mile or two past the lake. That is what made it for us. Crossed several creeks....More

There is a parking lot at Maroon Lake. During the summer you can drive up before 8 am. After 8 am it's by bus. The hike to Crater Lake starts here. In May it took us an hour and a half because of snow.

It took us about 4 1/2 hours to make the complete circle, and we' went really slow. I think most people were completing it in around 3 hours.
