About
Few words can describe the ambiance of the Catalina Casino: it epitomizes everything glamorous and romantic about Catalina Island. The one-of-a-kind venue is simply stunning inside, outside, and all around. If the meticulously decorated walls could talk, they’d tell countless stories of romance and celebration gathered from decades of memorable events. The immense, Deco-themed ballroom is large enough to contain weddings, large meetings or lectures or musical events. The Casino has retained its signature lavish style: a stunning medley of rose-hued walls, an arching, 50-foot ceiling with five Tiffany chandeliers, an elevated stage, raised seating areas surrounding the wooden dance floor, and a vintage full-service bar anchoring the back. A sweeping veranda surrounds the ballroom with stunning 360-degree views of Avalon Bay.

My husband and I got married in the ballroom 20 years ago. It was a magical experience with relatives flying in from all over the country and out of the country. We had over 150 guests. We planned on renewing our vows for our 20 year anniversary and rebooked the ballroom. We lined up all vendors, sent out invitations, and were about a few months into the planning, when surprise at age 46, we found out that I was pregnant! Not planned at all. We immediately contacted the ballroom and told them our situation and asked if they would make an exception on our deposit. They had required a $6300 deposit.

We would never expect the full amount back, but we’re hopeful that, especially if they rebooked it (which they most likely will since it’s 4th of July weekend - the BIGGEST WEEKEND ON CATALINA ISLAND!) they would consider giving us $1000 or $2000 back. We explained that we would rebook, as soon as we had the baby and knew that baby was healthy & all was well.

All of our other vendors were so gracious… Either giving the full deposit back or a portion of it. We gave all of our vendors over 8 months heads up. Catalina has always held a special place in our lives because that’s where my husband proposed, that’s where we got married, and that’s where we have taken our family every year since our wedding.

The contact at the ballroom was rude and would not budge. He wouldn’t even communicate with us directly. It’s really disappointing to see their 10 page contract, all their requirements now (verses 20 years ago), and the lack of any sort of compassion in such an unplanned situation. No personal touch or relationship. It put such a sour taste in our mouth for the Catalina island company.

We spent so much money 20 years ago and had budgeted spending over $100,000 this time around! It’s too bad they’re all about a business now; especially when working with clientele on some of their most special life events.

Beautiful building, fascinating history! Especially enjoyed learning about the theatre previewing some of the first "talkies".

We attended an Art Deco dance in the casino. It was amazing to see 700 people all dressed up in period costume dancing to a live big band. I highly recommend taking a tour so you can see the ballroom and movie theatre.

This is the third time in 25 years I have done this tour and this one was by far the best and most interesting. Lots of renovations I had never seen before. Very interesting history!

This is a gorgeous building and the tour was informative. It is sad that the structure is not used very often and did not host an event during our stay on Catalina.

We took the Casino tour and were amazed with all the original ceiling, walls and floors! This place is so historical that you have to take the tour and experience it for yourself!
They do have live events here so if you are in the area please go!

This is just a wonderful vintage building built in 1929. We came for the Jazz festival and experiencing it at a live event made it that much more special. At intermission, we walked around the portico that goes all around it, saw the island at night, the lights from Avalon and the boats on the harbor, magical. The only downer was the smoking section they have out there.

The jazz event we saw was over half empty when it started because many people buy the whole weekend of events and come and go, so that was a bummer. But it eventually filled up, older crowd, great acts, top notch, great sound, cool ceiling (see photos).

Rebecca our guide was knowledgeable and gave us some great stories. Was a surprising plus, and finding out about the theatre, the crowds that came here to dance from the mainland, often returning the same night. I could imagine easily the packed dance floor and fun times they must have had. Amazing engineering, built in 14 months in the late 20's... Go see it. Views are great too...

If walls could speak, this venue woudl have so many tales! A marvelous building that was an architectural marvel when built. The Catalina Casino Ballroom has stood the test of time, and is oen of the great classic buildings that remain in Southern California.
