We were on a 5 day break to Tallin, and decided to get out of the city and see a bit of the countryside so for some strange reason decided on Paldiski, advertised as a beautiful sea side resort, so off we went by train. The train ride lasted about an hour, was very cheap and a very nice scenic ride. We arrived at Paldiski, a pretty little Train station and decided to go in for a coffee, then started walking. We came upon the first nuclear bunker with a sign saying, Merry Nuclear Christmas, well not a good start really. The place was all concrete high rise flats, there were not many people about, we thought we would try to find the town, this seemed to consist of a couple of shops, not much more. we walked for about a mile and a half till we came to the beach, nothing there, so decided to get the bus back into Tallin. I think if we had been in the car we would have maybe seen more, an interesting experience, wouldnt rush back though.

Sadly most of the structures which belonged to this once very important submarine base have been flattened as Paldiski's harbour is expanding. However, you can still find some ruins from much older structures, namely parts of Peter the Great's Naval Fortress.

Those are on your left side after the built up area ends while driving towards Pakri peninsula (where the lighthouse and an old guard tower are).

while I enjoyed the Paldiski cape, found the remains of the fort, crumbling cliffs, I did not find remains of any submarine base.
