After walking from one side to the other of the mall we decided on a different path on the way back to the hotel - to the left of Lincoln. We came across this unknown gem. We didn't do tons of research before our trip so we had no idea this was here on an "island" but it was and I'm glad we stopped. Our 5th grader has been learning about US history and this clicked with her, she knew these names and about them, great stop for us.

I visited the Signers of the Declaration of Independence Memorial in August 2024. It is located in Constitution Gardens not far from the Lincoln Memorial and Vietnam War Memorial. It is worthwhile to see. I saw the signatures of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, John Adams and Samuel Adams among others - 56 in total.

We were just strolling around the area of the Reflecting Pool and, basically, just stumbled upon this Memorial. To access the Memorial, you cross a small wooden bridge onto an island. There are 56 stone blocks, each with a facsimile of the signer's actual signature.

Really neat!!

I love that this is more than just signatures, it lists the homes and occupations of each signer as well. Our nine year old and 2 six year olds were amazed that not just politicians helped found our country, I think they may want to give it a go. Quick stop but glad we did.

The only reason not a full 5, the water is kind of gross. I get that in summer especially you get algae and what not, but the kids could not stop asking why people make it so yucky. Not sure how hard it is to maintain, but hoping it’s not like this all the time.

This would be missed unless noted on the map of the Mall near the Lincoln Memorial. It was built and dedicated in 1976 as part of the Bicentennial Celebration to honor the men who signed the Declaration of Independence. You cross a bridge to a small island in the pond within the Constitution Garden to find a semi-circular monument that lists all 56 men with their signatures etched in gold leaf. Another reminder of the full commitment by the nation's forefathers and foremothers to pursue liberty in the face of adversity. An intriguing monument that can be reached by following Constitution Avenue east toward downtown (across from the Department of Interior).

The Memorial to the Signers of the Declaration of Independence Memorial is often overlooked, but it is very cool to see. It is on a very small island in a pond to the side of the National Mall, but I highly recommend visiting this memorial.

It was interesting to see the names of all the signers and what they did for a living. It’s situated in a beautiful park which was really quiet considering the tourists else where.

We had just left the Albert Einstein Memorial and were headed back toward the National Mall to see more museums. We saw a little lake with weeping willow tree, my wife and I love them, and walked over to take some pictures. There was a stand to buy drinks/food and we grabbed some waters and continued on. We came across a little bridge with some inscriptions on it. It was a memorial for the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

We crossed the bridge and there is a small wall of blocks each with a signers name engraved in it. It was pretty cool to stumble upon. It is between the Vietnam War and World War II Memorials and worth a look.

The greenery around the lake and the views of the Washington Monument towering over the lake are amazing.

I was not aware of this memorial until walking back to our hotel from the Lincoln and Vietnam War Memorials. Need to cross a little bridge to access this and worth it. Has large stone engravings of the Declaration of Independence signers. Quite impressive and well done.

The 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence Memorial is part of the Constitution Gardens. It is located in a small Island in the pond not far from the Vietnam Memorial. The bridge to the Island is on the Constitution Avenue side. There are 56 stones in a half circle. Each stone contains a name, profession of each singer. Go there and learn who these historic people in the U.S. history are.
