Overview
More
Known as the "Cradle of the Emancipation Proclamation". The Cottage is where Lincoln lived with his family at the height of the Civil War. The Cottage is located on a picturesque hilltop in Northwest Washington, DC. Opened to the public for the first time in 2008 after being restored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Cottage is the only designated National Monument in DC and the only National Monument in the country that is operated by a non-profit. Guided tours of the Cottage focus on Lincoln's ideas and offer visitors an intimate view of Abraham Lincoln’s presidency and private life. Visitors are also invited to browse exhibits in the adjacent Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center. Tickets are required for entry to the Cottage, and advanced ticket purchase is strongly recommended. Weekend tours often sell out completely.

This is a very unique tour of President Lincoln's cottage. This is definitely not in the main DC list of tours, but this is a must for anyone who admires or studies Abraham Lincoln. There are only scheduled tours and the ice-breaker at the beginning...More

Most visitors will spend their time at the usual spots and attractions in the District. Lincoln's Cottage is a little off the beaten path, but very worthwhile. We wanted to learn more about Lincoln's time here and were richly rewarded learning a great deal. Guides...More

I didn’t realize this summer home was in DC. It was a wonderful, interesting visit to this historic place. The small tour is excellent, led by a historian with a sense of humor. If you like history, the development of the area as a home...More

Just when you think you’ve been to most of the museums in the DC area, a new one pops up. Opened in 2008, I had not heard about President Lincoln’s Cottage on the grounds of the “Old Soldiers Home” on Rock Creek Church Park. The...More

A simple and bucolic setting right in the middle of Washington DC. Lincoln's cabin is a must visit for any true fan of Lincoln history. You can almost imagine the great President roaming to meadows and grassy hills of DC before its population explosion.

Great hour long plus tour with guide Kevin. Very informative about President Lincoln and family. Beautiful hillside setting next to National Cemetary. House was empty of Lincoln's furnishings otherwise would have received an excellent review. Small museum in visitors building was nice with gift shop...More

You can see the house from the gate. Not sure if you can pass through after hours.

To see the house, you have to be on a tour, which takes about an hour (although with questions, can run a bit longer). The visitor's center has a few small exhibits and a gift shop. Two hours will do it. It's a fantastic... More
