The monastery in DC is the closest that some will get to visiting the Holy Land. The Monastery of Mount St. Sepulchre, designated a National Historic Site in 1991, has been a place of worship and pilgrimage for thousands of visitors since the church's dedication in 1899. Free tours are given daily of the catacombs, church, and gardens.

The church on the grounds of the monastery is absolutely beautiful, as are the gardens on the grounds. The idea behind this place is "if you can't visit the holy land, visit here," and as such the church contains replicas and artifacts designed to resemble various holy spaces and/or from various holy spaces. While I appreciate what the church is... More

The architecture is fabulous, only surpassed by the beautiful grounds. Excellent tour guide was amazing and made the tour a very informative and delightful experience.

This monastery has lovely grounds and free parking. It is easily accessible from the CUA/Brookland Metro stop. There is an excellent Introduction to the Holy Places and the site of the Crucifixion and the Tomb of Resurrection are exact replicas. The gift store is OK but could have some better quality items.

If you have the time and you're visiting Catholic University or the National Shrine, it is worth walking the half-mile to see this monastery. The grounds and the building are beautiful -- a great way to find a calm space in the city.

This is a wonderful place visit to admire the interior work of the main hall, to learn about Christianity, and to enjoy the wonderful the outdoor garden. The place can be easily accessed and found by car. It is located in the Brookland area (sometime known by locals as "little Rome"). There are plenty of parking spaces provided by the... More

Finding this location was quite easy. When I walked in I was greeted by a pleasant attendant, who directed me to the guided tour area which I am very grateful I did because he passionately shared a wealth of information. An excellent guide. The grounds were immaculately kept and quite peaceful. One can easily spend an entire day here and... More

A totally moving experience is what I felt. I am not overly religious. I came to the monastery at the request of my wife. I would recommend it to anyone. We took the last tour of the day and I was glad we did. I wish we had come earlier and had been able to visit the gardens, they looked... More
