A forgotten memorial for a forgotten founder. It sits near the Jefferson Memorial and is on the walk from FDR to Jefferson. It is a large area to sit and relax or contemplate, as the statue of Mason appears to be doing.

It is worth a visit and a sit down to learn more about this great founder.

This is probably one of the most overlooked memorials on the National Mall. It is dedicated to George Mason, who wrote the first Virginia Bill of Rights and who was a major contributor to the U.S. Bill of Rights. While it isn't a must see, I am glad we took the time to go by and see it and take pics.

I stopped at this memorial while I was walking around the TIdal Basin to see the Chery Blossoms.

It's low key , not crowded, and a nice stop. It consists of a small pond surrounded by flowers and a statue of George Mason.

I wouldn't make a special trip to see it, but if your going around the Tidal Basin you might as well stop for a minute to take a look.

Its located between the Jefferson Memorial and the FDR memorial , right next to the bridge.

And if you are wondering who George Mason is he was a founding father involved with the Constitutuion and the Bill of Rights.

The place is in the shadows of bigger luminaries. The place is not maintained. There is a sole guy on the bench. Looks like the guy has received snub in monument regard.

Poor George Mason, The father of the Bill of Rights. All he gets is a little memorial across the street (behind the Lincoln Memorial). People just walk right by & don't even know he's there. It's a nice family friendly memorial, with a fountain & flowers.

A nice little lifesize bronze with a nice garden and some comfortable steps to enjoy a bit of lunch. George Mason was an important founding father and there is some reflecting to do at this site, but overall it is good for a quick breather on a tour of DC.

The George Mason Memorial is often overlooked but should be visited as he was an important figure in American history and important to gaining independence from England. Also, it is very close to the Jefferson Memorial but many don't realize it.

George Mason, as the info board outside the memorial states, is a “Forgotten Founder”, and certainly among the most underrated of the Founders. His laying out of individual rights and push to have them added to the Constitution as the Bill of Rights is why we have the freedoms we enjoy today (although some have been unconstitutionally undermined by politicians who broke their oaths to uphold the Constitution even since the 19th century). The bronze statue of him relaxed on the bench is neat as you can sit along side the sculpture of the great Founder. A great man who did not look for recognition, but fought for individual liberty should have a better commemoration. If so, this would have gotten a 5 rating.
