Powerful Monument to a Great Man
This is a dignified and empowering monument by Lei Yixin. Incredibly, the entire project cost $120 million; the vast majority was raised through donations. I particularly liked the small water features around the statue.

    Powerful
We stopped here after visiting the nearby FDR memorial. We were glad we did so, too. The MLK memorial is well-conceived and executed, a powerful and striking memorial. The statue looms over you and looks across the Tidal Basin to the Jefferson Memorial. I’m sure this orientation is deliberate and one can contemplate its meaning. This is definitely a must-see in DC.

Not as impressive as I had hoped
I liked this memorial to the great Martin Luther King but it didn’t make me go “wow” which actually felt a little disappointing compared to all the others we looked at. Try and ensure you enter into this space through the two large pieces of granite which symbolise “ the mountain of despair” because you are then greeted by the statue itself which is a 30 ft effigy of the man himself. Additionally there are 14 of his most famous quotes on the inscription wall behind.

Inspiring. Also, relaxing and peaceful, with seating as part of the artistic design.
Amazing, inspiring. Stunning work of art and a fitting tribute for a man who is fitting to be remembered with such a tribute. A gorgeous place for serene reflection and peaceful contemplation, with ample seating built into the exhibit. Must-visit.

    Incredible monument
A bit further out from the Lincoln Memorial but well worth a visit. This huge statue with the legendary Martin Luther King sits in a fitting area of so many great tributes. There are lots of inspiring quotes on the walls

    MLKJr. Memorial
This is one of the memorials that helps if you have a tour guide or know the background information of the memorial itself. We visited on a night tour, and coming through the mountains of despair, it actually does block off all sound and sight before you break through to the memorial. Just was amazed at the ability of the artist to work in granite! It also helps to go at a time there, or not so many other tourists visiting so that it is quieter and more reflective.

    Fantastic memorial
This is very cool to visit and very accessible. You can walk, scooter or bike to it. Park scooters and bikes just outside the entrance and then walk the 50m into it. Well placed and plenty of space to move around

    Impressive
Impressive, simple in form and located in a quiet location around 10 min. walking from the Lincoln Memorial, where Martin Luther King, Jr. held his famous speech: ''I had a Dream''. The official address of the monument, 1964 Independence Avenue, S.W., commemorates the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Memorial was open to public in 2011.

For me, as a non U.S. citizen, this was the most poignant of all the memorials we visited whilst in the capital. Definitely worth a visit and time for reflection.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial was very impressive. It is alongside the tidal basin, diagonally across from the Jefferson Memorial. There is a stunning heroic-scale statue of Dr. King in white & gray stone, which is in stark contrast to the many bronze memorials in DC. There is a poignant symbolism with a stone mountain in the background, and the statue carved out of a slice of the mountain. Etched in the side of the stone are the words “Out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope”. I saw the memorial as a profoundly simple and understated summary of Dr. King’s work.

I love the way this staue is carved out of the block of granite. The design, likeness, and detail are all quite impressive. That said. It would be nice if there was more here.

Some in our tour group was being very disrespectful to the man and his statue. No need this controversy in tour. These argumentative people should better stay home rather than visit.

My absolute favourite memorial / monument in Washington. The architects did a great job in creating a wonderful atmosphere around the statue. Absolutely beautiful and a must see.

After a long walk, coming here you can sit in the corner and watch the statue and remembering the greatest impact he led to American society was an achievement.
