This new memorial is a wonderful tribute to the great MLK. we had a tour guide give us the backstory of all of the details that went into the monument. I recommend researching this before your visit. Greatly adds to the experience. During cherry blossom season, the memorial is surrounded with cherry blossoms. Gorgeous.

Went with the sister and niece of an African American friend lost in Viet Nam. Layout is good and the memorial is imposing and impressive - gives a feeling of strength. Wouldn't recommend it in inclement weather.

The MLK monument is long overdue and rich in symbolism. You can approach by either side of the monument, walking up from the Potomac shore or descend into its center through a rift in two large white rocks. MLK himself emerges from a a block of rock in front of that schism. A collection of his important quotes flank either... More

I came upon this Memorial quite haphazardly as I was simply taking a walk around the Tidal Basin area to see the cherry blossoms. It was awesome to behold as I rounded a bend of pink frosted trees to see Martin Luther King Jr standing there with his arms crossed looking sternly out across the water. He certainly taught our... This was a pretty memorial. I love the statue of MLK and all the quotes on the wall. This is a sight you must see.

This is so well thought out. Every detail was planned with meaning. The quotes selected are exactly perfect too.

We visited the MLK memorial on a cold day in late winter. Although I've been to DC before I'd never seen this one. It is very impressive, with a great statue of MLK and many quotes from his most famous speeches and sermons. If you're visiting the other memorials on the National Mall you should definitely take time out to... More

Heavy Rocks with the sculpture of MLK coming out of the front of a large stone. Striking quotations from Rev King. Worth the visit. By the way, the view of the Jefferson Memorial and the rest of the Mall from MLK's memorial is spectacular!

While this is worth a visit, add it to something else. While it is a lovely monument I would not recommend a special trip (even though we made a special trip)/

This was my first visit to DC since the King memorial was added. I remember the mixed reactions to the sculpture and wasn't sure what to expect. I liked it. It's a nice stop on your walk around the Tidal Basin.
