We visited the cathedral on our last afternoon in Washington, and we were so glad we got there. Admission is $12 ($8 for teachers if you have proof of your profession). First we headed to the 7th floor to look at the views of Washington from windows wrapped around one of the towers. Afterward we went to the basement and... More

We attended Easter Service. It was a very formal service befitting the National Cathedral in a wonderful cathedral. The early morning light coming thru the stained glass windows resulted in great colors painting the inside of the cathedral.

This is a stunning display of architecture worth seeing by any visitor. I went the first time at age 14 and again as an adult and loved it both times. Call ahead to ensure the cathedral will be open for tours, as ceremonies seem to be held often here. If you take the elevator up, there is a beautiful view... More

The event is part of the Cathedral’s celebration of the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals. In the past, dogs, cats, horses, ferrets and guinea pigs have all assembled at the Cathedral to receive blessings. This year animal lovers can participate on Sunday, October 2 | 2:30pm when Washington National Cathedral honors the feast day... More

We took a bus up to visit on a Sunday about 11am - right as service was starting. They are definitely ready for this and very graciously direct you accordingly. We saw the crypt and the bell tower, then had coffee at the nearby cafe - then we could tour the sanctuary.

Paying a little extra was well worth it to take the Behind the Scenes Tour. We were able to access areas of the Cathedral that were incredible. We went to the balcony located directly under the rose window, enabling us to get an up-close view of it. Also, right outside, 300' up on the walkways, eye-to-eye with gargoyles and grotesques.... The Washington National Cathedral is a beautiful architectural marvel. It resembles the stunning Churches in Europe. It is a little out of the way, but well worth a visit.

Excellent guided tour by prearrangement for our small group. The volunteer guide was very knowledgeable and informative and guided us throughout the entire cathedral. The building is beautiful, the stained glass windows impressive, and it's definitely worth a visit.

If you want a cathedral fix, forget Florence, Milan, London, Paris.....come here instead. Although it’s not as expansive as St. Peter's, our country's cathedral is just as imposing. Great location showing off a towering structure with great architecture (think flying buttresses). Wonderful stained glass windows; some of the finest we've seen. Oh yes, you won’t get to the top of... More
