The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

Even w/o a booked tour I was allowed to join a tour immediately. The tour is really well done and even for non-US citizens informative and interesting. Both the history and the architecture of the building are impressive.

I highly recommend going through your Congressman's office to schedule your tour. You get to see so much more. We went through House Representative Mike Rogers' office and his staff was great. Debby did a fabulous job, above and beyond the normal tour. We got...More

We were able to go into both the House and the Senate but the security procedures put into place are fairly ridiculous. It honestly takes away from the whole experience. The other frustration we had was that it was a Wednesday and both chambers were...More

They finally took the scaffolding off and it looks great! However now the entire perimeter is blocked off! Not sure if there was an event or if its the new Administration, but it was a little disappointing to not be able to go 'close' to...More

It's worth scheduling a visit when you are in Washington. You can learn a lot about the history of US Congress. The only negative point is that you can't visit the plenary if you are not US citizen.

We walked here after visiting the Air and Space Museum, which was an expected long, but fun walk with several photo opportunities. We couldn't bring our snacks inside so we had to eat them or throw them away before attempting the security line again. The...More

We took the free tour of the Capitol. It is a very informative tour of the Rotunda, and the old House and the old Senate Chambers. We worth the 45 minutes to pick up some interesting facts about our Capitol Building.

Our family of four toured the capital with a guide from our congressman's office. She was not the most knowledgeable person, but she did take us a few places that others did not seem to go through. There is a short video that our 6...More

Hi Nancy, The tough part is that AID airport is much further away from the city than Regan airport. I didn't book tours, but made my own plans. You definitely have time to do something, but you need to prioritize what you... More

The one through your congressman is given by one of the congressman's staffers and in much smaller groups. We saw much more of the capital and could ask questions. In the one you book online is the public capital tour and... More

I would arrive at 8:00am. Try to get the tour for the Senators and Congressional Gallery also from their office building. It is well worth it. The difference between the public and private tours is the line you stand in... More
