An American gem. Go and plan on spending at least half a day wandering through the Gallery. Really amazing, and the exhibits change frequently. Admission is free. When you need a break, chill out in the Courtyard Cafe.

This review is only for the American portraits. We didn't have time to view the other collections. We were pleasantly surprised to see a portrait of Benjamin Franklin that is now on the newest $100 bill... speaking of money, the prices at the cafe are outrageous. $5 for a small scoop of ice cream is criminal

Eye pop, the Celebrity gaze was interesting, but the main draw for me is the President's portrait gallery, which gives your such an insight to the men behind the position.

This is a tremendous gallery. Delightful in every way. A must go. The staff are friendly and the corridors abound with beautiful works of art.

If you have any interest in US history, politics, or popular culture, go and see the National Portrait Gallery. The free tours make the experience even more rewarding as you learn the stories behind the paintings and the people.

Outside Paris this is as good as it gets. Grandeur, calm, stunning with an incredible collection including a Leonardo da Vinci, gorgeous Picasso's, you name it. Really a special place. We spent three hours and highly recommend it.

Visited a couple weeks ago. If you like portraits this is a great gallery to visit. It had a lot of president portraits. Definitely a must see if you like art.

Even if you hate art, you should go see this museum for its beautiful architecture. The museum is housed in what used to be the Patent Office, and is stunningly beautiful inside, particularly in the 3rd floor grand hall, which used to hold models of all the patented items and was the single largest hall in America. The hall is... More

Love this museum! Before I went I thought it would be just boring portraits but it's so much more. Great modern art, and the portraits are like a history lesson and art class in one. Plus the building is gorgeous.

I loved the pull out drawers where you can look at all of the Daguerreotypes. There is more to this museum than small photographs, but it is one of my favorite parts of this museum.
