We started in the presidential portrait gallery and worked our way around the museum. One of the special exhibits was Dark Fields of the Republic - Alexander Gardner Photographs 1859-1872. It contains some amazing photos of Abraham Lincoln and life and war in that time period. Other parts of the gallery contain may types and styles of American Art. All... More

Wonderful collection. We spent about 2.5 hours and only barely scratched the surface. It was wonderful seeing portraits of people important to the development of our country. The description of each work told the story of the person in the portrait. We want to go back.

Shares a building complex with the American Art Museum. A wonderful collection of paintings and photographs of famous Americans from the 1700s to the present. And, don't miss the grand hall--a stunning piece of architecture.

We enjoyed especially the gallery of President's portraits. And also portraits of many who have contributed to the history of our country. Very inspiring and thought-provoking!

Amazing paintings of every president and a few first ladies. Get up close to the portraits of our founding fathers and others who have led this country. I didn't want to leave!

Have never been to an art gallery before but decided to check it out since it was right across from the Spy Museum. After a few days of walking through museums and doing so much reading we found this to be very relaxing and really enjoyed the amazing artwork. Take a break from the information overload and visit the Portrait... More

This is one of my favorite museums in the city! It is free and always has great new exhibits! The center courtyard is a great place to meet up with friends and get out of the busy city.

A great collection of art, from portraits to statuary to modern art, all worth while. The cafe served great lunch and we ate in the atrium, very nice. It was a very cold day, not so great for the National Mall, so we spent the day here instead. Would definitely return.
