this was the best Smithsonian museum we visited on a museum trip to DC, well worth the time and make sure you allow enough time to take in the guide tours , they have a different tour every hour, exhibits are arranged for easy viewing...More

This museum is free to start off. As are most of the museums in D.C. Very awesome paintings and sculptures. Was very awesome to see items from as early as the 13th or 14th century. Astounding to think these items are as old as they...More

I've visited the National Gallery many times in the past and I always found something new to see every time. My last visit was when it just acquired a new Da Vinci painting. Not knowing much about art, I thought the painting was okay, but...More

My wife wanted to visit the Gallery. I'd rather visit the American History or Natural History Museum but, went in for her. Im really glad I went in. The artwork is beautiful. Its amazing how an oil painting from the 1700's can be so well...More

The incomparable Simone de Beauvoir wrote, in 1947, that the interior of the National Gallery in Washington was a cross between a mausoleum and a turkish bath; and she added: 'The richness of its collections stuns me'. And me: particularly considering that most of the...More

I'm not into art much but my friend is. It was rooms and rooms of art (I know, it is an art gallery). I think it would have been more interesting to me if I knew what I was looking at or if I had...More

What a great visit! This gallery has some remarkable works in its collection. It was definitely worth a trip- even with all the stiff museum competition in DC. Very knowlegable and friendly staff.

Unfortunately I'm not as impressed with the National Gallery compared to many others across the world. Its very large and has a lot of works but it just seems to lack a great interesting collection.

This Museum was worth the visit. It has something for everyone including French, Italian, Dutch & American paintings with activities & tours for families. I would recommend this visit.

I went on a Tuesday morning, and there were no lines at all! It's a great exhibit. No tickets or timed entry required. It's one of the great public institutions in Washington that taxpayers support. ENjoy!

Yes, the National Gallery of Art is a federally funded museum and would close in case on government shutdown.
