As a first time visitor to the Hirshhorn Museum I loved the sparseness which was used to great effect by the artworks. Went specifically to see Ai Weiwei's exhibition which was not disappointing. Was delighted to see a Mueck sculpture, and also one of Yayoi...More

The Hirshhorn is a must for lovers of contemporary art. This particular visit was very rewarding: the exhibit by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, "Pickett's Charge" and the video work by Ed Atkins set to Ravel's "Bolero" were all remarkable and more than make up for...More

Despite the "Pickett's Charge" and Abbottabad display, the place is a depressing display for those who want to see genius or worthy attempts at modern art. The Pickett's circular display is of average quality (though of very large girth) and the reconstruction of OSB's compound...More

This spherical structure is arguably a little overlooked on the Mall but is certainly worth a visit. The art it showcases won't be to everyone's taste, but the collection did surprise me for offering me stuff I wouldn't normally have much time for and winning...More

This is one of our favorite museums. Right now there is a great exhibit by Al Wei wei, its got everything you like about this creative, controversial artist including portraits of famous international activists done in legos . Don't miss the sculpture garden either. Always...More

The exhibits were ok, but not great. The Ai Wei Wei work in Legos was pretty cool, but I was otherwise underwhelmed. I may just be a heathen who doesn't get it, but the national art museum was more interesting.

DC is chock full of great museums but the Hirschhorn remains one of my favorites. I was fortunate enough to catch some incredible shows there including Ai Wei Wei. The grounds and museum are not to be missed.

While the National Gallery of Art and the Air and Space Museum are among to most visited of National Mall museums, it's the donut shaped Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden that gets my vote for the most interesting of the Smithsonian's museums and galleries. It...More

Another great National Treasure often missed by people visiting this great city. Make time to visit this free admission museum. Takes just a couple hours to walk through. Magnificent sculptures outside should not be missed. Exhibitions change regularly.

Frequently changed exhibits, super cool layout, excellent atmosphere. Intriguing artists and pieces. I particularly love the first floor interactive/film exhibits. Either go alone or bring your modern art loving homies- there’s a lot to look at and read and think about. I certainly would not...More
