This was our first visit in 4+ years and I did not like the changes. We have always loved this gallery and it is a beautiful building. The second and third floors have always been ringed by an amazing collection of sculptures and they have all been removed which was disappointing. The entire second floor was one special exhibit and... More

Exhibits change frequently and at the moment there's an Icelandic performance artist, Ragnar Kjartansson, who is definitely worth a visit. I never thought we'd see "Sorrow Conquers Happiness" again but there it was and its choices like that which should put a visit to the Hirshhorn on your list. There's an inner core and an outer one, changing exhibits on... More

This wonderful museum had an unusual exhibit by a multimedia artist from Iceland; Unique and engaging.

When in DC, this is always one of my "go to" museums. It's got a great collection - eclectic, smart and modern. Always something worth seeing.

This is an enormous, circular, modern museum, famous for its many exhibits in paintings and sculptures, and, by extension, its outdoor gardens with numerous sculptures as well. The circular shape of the building with its enormous windows, make for galleries that are on the inside, including enormous paintings, and galleries that are on the outside rim, so that the exhibits... Very unique place. The large naked man statue? The large screen with the talking lips? Things like this make this place stand apart. The rest of the place was neat as well -- lots of unique and "regular" exhibits too. Great free place to stop at!

Labor Day provided the only opportunity for my boyfriend and I to explore the sights on the Mall, as we were down in DC for a convention. One of the sites we had never been to was the Hirshhorn. With it's distinct circular and elevated design, it's definitely a work of art in its own right. The permanent collection houses... More

We went to this museum to see the Edward Hopper paintings in their collection. Unfortunately only one was on display and it wasn't the best one they have. Everything else was just silly modern art stuff. For example, one room consists of nothing but monitors showing videos of the artist and his mother taken at five year intervals in which... More

A lot of people don't like this sort of art, because it is "different", not just mere prettiness. I find it quirky and amusing. Consider the car smashed by a huge boulder. That is art? Right now, there is a special exhibit of the Icelandic artist's work (Ragnar Kjartansson). No, I haven't heard of him, either. But why not get... More
