On the south side of the Mall just east of the Castle the Hirshhorn is full of contemporary art exhibitions including on the north side of the building an outdoor sculpture garden also free.

Some amazing pieces here-Got to see the current exhibit of Ai Weiwei and also Yoko Ono. Many pieces integrated into the building itself and some interactive. Even kids would like this art space, I think...

What a really nice museum. The layout is really well done and it makes it impossible to get lost or forget of you're looking at the same thing for the third time.

Saw the Ai Wei Wei exhibit: Masterpieces. Also, some of the museum's iconic pieces. Marvelous. An absolute must for art lovers, or even just art likers.

Came here and enjoyed our trip round lots to see. Really enjoyed looking at all the exhibits but don't forget there are more outside as well.

Yoko Ono!!!! The Four Works for Washington and the World was a surprise! I enjoyed the Hirshhorn Collection of Masterworks

Once you get past the security checkpoint you can get to work enjoying the artwork. There is plenty to see for free. Our favorite items were all outside.

Visited to see the Ai Weiwei Lego portraits - well worth the trip. The other exhibits were quite unique and interesting.

It depends how crowded it is and what exhibit is there-weekends usually require more time

I would say an hour or so depending how much you enjoy the exhibits.
