The Arlington Memorial Bridge connects people to Arlington Cemetery on the west side of the Potomac River and the Lincoln Memorial and the National Mall on the east side. Best appreciated if you walk the bridge as a pedestrian. It is a straight shot from the Lincoln Memorial across the bridge to Arlington Cemetery.

PROS
* Elegant, stately, world famous and historic
* Connecting outstanding landmarks on both ends- the stately Lincoln Memorial and the solemn Arlington National Cemetery

CONS
* Traffic patterns are confusing

“I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… when driving between Reagan National Airport (DCA) and Washington DC

For more details, see my review from last year, two below this one and written on July 8, 2022.

I was happy to see that there was no construction this time.

ADVICES
For sure go- walk or bicycle or car- is scenic in either direction and I’m not even sure which one I prefer.

If driving, use Waze and need very careful and cautiouu u s at the traffic circles and merged roads on both ends of the bridge- very confusing.

This bridge connects Arlington National Cemetery with Washington DC. A walk from the National Mall is easy and pleasant, albeit a bit challenging. The panorama of Potomac River and downtown Arlington is particularly impressive. Metro connection available on the Virginia side.

PROS
• Famous historical bridge- remember for the JFK funeral procession
• It connects major national monuments and shrines
• It has decorative statues at its ends
• It can be crossed by foot or on bicycle, but there are always obstacles

CONS
• Major traffic thoroughfare
• It is always under construction somewhere at some point and area
• The traffic circle at the entrance/exit to Virginia is unclear and counter- intuitive and confusing

“I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… when coming from the U.S. Marine Corps Monument to the Lincoln Memorial.

That aforementioned traffic circle is a source of consternation for me- it is dangerous from so many cars, and unclear where the turnoffs are.

Pay attention and use Waze or Google maps.

We spent the day in Washington as a break from New York City and the whole experience was fab. You need to pick up the Trolley Tour from the station and hop on, hop off so you see all of the fabulous attractions, Arlington being one of them

Even though it is under repair, the lights and touches are quite nice and make for a pretty view for a walk or even short stop nearby

This bridge across Potomac, connects the Lincoln memorial at the end of the National Mall to Arlington Cemetery. Its a long walk but quite doable if weather is friendly. You can also rent a bike near Lincoln Memorial but it can be a pain putting it to parking etc near cemetery so I came back again on a metro just for the visit to the cemetery.

A bridge connecting Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Cemetery - it's much closer that it seems to be, so consider taking a walk instead of using public transportation. While the views are very nice, the cars on the bridge may be a nuisance.

I asked Bro to drive me from DC to Arlington National Cemetery and of course he complied. We crossed twice- once in each direction.

Of course it’s a grand historic scenic bridge which has seen history (such as the JFK funeral, remembered by JFK fanatics such as yours truly.

But now there is construction that disrupts several lanes and makes the grand glorious excursion into something very plain and not so much fun.

Wait until the construction is completed.

Thanks for following and reading about my adventures.

Your friend,
Buc Haish.

After crossing the river and highway, and just before entering the Cemetery, on the right is the Monument to the efforts of the Sea Bee's for their accomplishments in WW II. My dad was a Sea Bee in the Korean War, so it was particularly meaningful to see this. The Sea Bee's are the Naval Construction Battalion, thus C.B., who were responsible for building much of the infrastructure necessary to move men and material for invasions in Italy and France in the European theater, and for creating the "road" through the Pacific that stretches from Hawaii to Okinawa that enabled the Marines to island hop through the Pacific theater campaign. The Sea Bee's motto is "Can Do".. and they did
