This museum is free. You go through a security check when you go in. Doesn't take long and then you get to see all the displays. Lots for children to see and great for adults too. In all a very enjoyable visit.

This is one of the museums that is great for the entire family to visit. Plan to spend a couple of hours there. It's right on the mall so convenient to get to.

This museum is so well done. It's absolutely huge and you could probably spend an entire day here. My only issue was that it was insanely busy (more so than other Smithsonian museums we visited) so getting close to things such as the Hope diamond...More

Even though I only have a few hours to spend in here at one time, I could easily come back for a week and find something interesting. This is the perfect Smithsonian for kids, and in my opinion, helps them learn more than even the...More

It's a while since I visited the London Natural History museum and some of this was quite similar, but still had a great morning here. Free admission and absolutely great for the kids.

This museum is truly phenomenal. I would recommend going early, before 10.30am as it can get very busy and it's not nice having to squash your way through exhibits. The live butterfly pavilion is truly spectacular and you can spend as much time as you...More

It was a hard decision to choose which museums we would have time to visit as we were only there for 2 1/2 days. This is definitely a museum that is not to be missed. We loved the animal displays and also loved the geology...More

We were excited to see the exhibit on Iceland, as we had recently visited. We love Iceland, and the exhibit was really fun to see.

This is such an outstanding museum with so many things to see and learn about I could easily spend a whole day exploring it. I first visited the Natural History Museum about 20 years ago and it was fantastic then too, but the advances since...More

This museum is worth visiting. It is nice to gain additional knowledge about science and life itself. Some sections are interactive , and if you have time , please do participate. I admire the mammal section as well as the sea life and dinosaur exhibit....More

The museum of natural history has everything-geology, the Hope diamond, Neanderthals, cave replicas, under the sea exhibits- there's just so much to explore. The hundreds of teenagers there seemed to love it.

Hi! My son is very interested in visiting the Smithsonian in DC to see the Dinosaur exhibit. I read that the main exhibit is closed while it is being remodeled. My question is: Are there dinosaurs still on exhibit (enough to travel from NY to see)? Is there a lot of dinosaur related stuff? And if so, is there a real T-Rex skeleton (on my sons "must see list")? Thanks so much!

Agreed with everyone above - there isn't much for dinosaurs. There's a great full T-Rex in Chicago at the Field Museum. I live here so I realize this may not be convenient for you right now but you should put that on your... More
