I had never visited the Library of Congress and had no idea how fantastic this experience would be. The building is breathtakingly beautiful and it is awe- inspiring to learn the history behind it. Take a guided tour. It is definitely worth it.

Do not leave the Capitol without checking out the Library of Congress. Allow at least 1-2 hours just for this attraction.

Visited with our two boys. Although we enjoyed the exhibits, especially the Jefferson library, the boys were very disappointed that we could not enter the main research library. Also their youth center area was small and had a very limited collection. Also, the librarians who were staffing the Youth Center were very nice but had very limited knowledge of the... More

This building was beautiful. The mosaic tiles were a sight to behold. The workers were friendly and able to answer our questions.

Take the free guided tour. The exhibits were really good but you can miss a lot so be sure to talk to any of the volunteer desks about current exhibits. Also if you are a geneology researcher for your family, go to the Marshall building across the street and get your researcher card (it's free) and check out the exhibits... More

As we had a booking for a tour at The Capitol later in the day we decided to see the library before that. Beautiful craft work on the walls and banisters as well as ceilings. Can't go into the actual library part as its a working library, but can view from a 'platform', so I guess that's as good as... More

This is perhaps the most beautiful building in all of DC. It has so many things to see - it is probably best to join one of their free tours. Although the tour guide may tell you more than you want to hear, at least you won't miss anything.

Suggest taking this tour for those who love books and architecture...It's worth a visit. Very well maintained. The tour was informative and provided some really good insights on the history.

You don't need to plan your visit ahead of time. I started doing a self guided tour and then joined a tour in progress. Both were very good. I was very out of sorts when I arrived because my State Dept tour was cancelled with no warning, but I was quickly delighted with the Library. Check out the Guttenberg Bible.

I thought I had gone into the Library of Congress on a previous visit to Washington, but I don't see how I could have forgotten such a unique and beautiful place. The Gutenberg and Mainz Bibles were wonderful, of course, as was the opportunity to see books actually owned by Thomas Jefferson! The presentation of Jefferson's library was well thought... More
