The library may not be one of the places on your list, but it's across from the Capitol and next to the Supreme Court so why not add it? The Library opens earlier that many other sights in DC, so get there early before the crowds and see one of the most beautiful buildings in America. You will not be... More

If you take the tunnel from the Capitol visitor center to the Library you emerge into the great hall and it is a wondrous sight. The murals and mosaics have all been lovingly and spectacularly restored. Upstairs the casual visitor can marvel at the reading room under the inspiring dome. A tour of the mocked up Jefferson library and even... More

After reading a few other people's reviews about this place I decided to go ahead and get a library card. Takes a little bit of time to go to the Madison Building to register and get it (free card with valid ID). Then you can ask for permission to view your favorite book. So, the book I chose was 240... Was told to go here by someone that lives in DC, as he has traveled extensively through Europe and said this place is the most beautiful buildings he has ever seen! Well he was right!!! The paintings and architecture are exquisite. Even if you have 15 minutes to spare, take the time to walk in and look, you won't be... More

You can't actually visit the book stacks, but the building itself is worth seeing. They had several exhibits available to visit--very cool place.

I went primarily to see the Gutenberg Bible, which is really interesting to see. The building, as other people have mentioned, is beautiful and worth seeing.

This is not to be missed and it is free to view. There are so many beautiful mosaics, ceilings, paintings throughout the structure of this building, as well as some historical artifacts. The Reading Room is not to be missed!

There is so much to see at the Library of Congress. I've been several times and still haven't seen it all. The architecture is stunning. The Grand Hall is massive and majestic. Many of the exhibits have descriptions or articles that accompany them, which is fascinating if you can take the time to read from our founder fathers. This wasn't... More

Get a guided tour if you can. If not, just enjoy the significance and the history of this national landmark.

Don't visit the library without taking the free tour. Check the website for tour times and arrive a few minutes earlier than the tour. Our guide was a former employee in the Congressional Research Section and was an absolute treasury of information and interesting facts. While walking around will let you see a couple of items on your own, you... More
