The building and surrounding areas are amazing and very impressive. It is a really building to walk through with plenty to see. It gives you a real sense of the history and importance of the area. The staff are very friendly and helpful Would recommend.

The building is gorgeous and the resources are impressive, but I didn't think the tour really did it justice. We didn't get to go in the famed reading room (just an alcove overlooking it through plexiglass).

I had planned this trip several months in advance. The only thing I regret is not being able to see congress or the senate in session because we went over thanksging. So much to see, an incredible immersion in our history!

This is the most ornate building you will see in Washington. It's fun to walk through, and the exhibits are good. There is a tour available, which we took. We booked this through our congressman's office. It's probably the same tour as the walk-in one,...More

Beautiful place - visual feast but with random 'cultural' words on all the art work. definitely worth a brief look but seriously question the fittingness of the words.

We signed up for a tour through our local senator and I must say, the tour was really worth it. We spent about an hour on the tour, but boy did our guide show us things that we would have never noticed or known what...More

A bit off the beaten path but well worth the visit. A unique and special place. Sits right behind the Capitol. It only takes an hour for a tour allowing plenty of time for the Capitol or the museums.

This is not your neighborhood library. It's a gorgeous building. The walls, ceilings, floors, to say nothing about the books, are all worth your visit. The exhibits are fascinating, particularly the recreation of Jefferson's library. It's a building you will wish to spend the day...More

I would plan 2-3 hours so as not to rush. The tour guides seem very good. My cousin works there so she took us around herself. Much more than a library!!

I agree, 90 minutes to 2 hours is a good time frame to put aside, that would give you enough time to either tour on your own or take a guided tour, plus have time to look around on your own if you do decide to do the tour... More
