I was surprised I had never been to the Library of Congress. How absolutely beautiful! It truly does compare to the opera houses and places of Europe in its beauty. Gold leaf everywhere, glorious stained glass dome, marble staircases, painted walls and mosaics everywhere. Not...More

The Library of Congress Jefferson building is stunning!. The walls, floors, and ceilings are ornate and beautiful- pictures can't do them justice.

This overlooked Washington attraction needs to be ranked among top sites to visit. Grandiose architecture, and beautiful artistic pieces adorn the Library. An impressive spot, and a must see.

Our tour guide was very informative and readily answered questions about the various displays. After the formal tour, we were allowed as much time as we wanted to revisit the displays.

Pleasantly surprised with the Library of Congress. It certainly is more than a library. Wasn't expecting much but have to say the architecture, including the artwork, of the building was second to none as was the collection of pieces. Free guided tour was fantastic. Great...More

The Thomas Jefferson Building, one of the buildings of the Library of Congress is it, as far as I am concerned. For an inveterate bibliophile, the word "library" conjures up pleasure and happiness. It is the world's biggest library, but it is not a lending...More

You would think a library is stodgy looking and musty smelling, but this library is breathtakingly beautiful inside. A definite must see if going near the Capitol building.

We went here on a whim and were amazed by its beautiful architecture and historic exhibits. Top on our list we're the Gutenberg bible, Jefferson's personal library and the magnificent reading room.

Another must stop when in the city, and easy to get to via the tunnel after visiting the Capitol. Stunning architecture, just amazing. To get into the reading room you must go thru a registration process in advance at another location.

A visit to our nation's capital is not complete without a visit to the Library of Congress! Such a beautiful building. Enjoyed all the displays and especially the Jefferson Library.

I would plan 2-3 hours so as not to rush. The tour guides seem very good. My cousin works there so she took us around herself. Much more than a library!!

I agree, 90 minutes to 2 hours is a good time frame to put aside, that would give you enough time to either tour on your own or take a guided tour, plus have time to look around on your own if you do decide to do the tour... More
