Night time visit

Another humbling experience that we did late at night with the lights bright and them getting ready for the new president to be sworn in

The memorial was particularly crowded because we visited on the Martin Luther King holiday and a few days before the Presidential Inauguration but it was still possible to feel the atmosphere of a president that fought against the injustices of slavery and tried hard to keep the Union together. A timely reminder when the USA seems to be divided.

Anyone with slightest interest in American/World history needs to see this place. With other war memorials added, overall it is a huge place to walk and explore. The Lincoln statue is more impressive in person than what you see in pics. Especially the view of pool and Washington monument makes you feel so small. It also offer quite a view... More

Not as old as it looks: built early in the 20th century. A truly imposing monument. The Gettysburg Address carved into one wall is incredibly powerful - you can almost hear Henry Fonda reading it in the final movement of Aaron Copland's Lincoln Portrait. Well worth a climb to see this famous monument.

A day... More

So beautiful to visit -- a thoughtful place with plenty of room to wander about and dream. Not too crowded in December.

The Lincoln Memorial is a must see. We climbed the stars and finally reached the top. The statue is much larger than I thought it would be.we made several pictures, but if you wanted really beautiful pictures I would come at night. You Can walk around the the main level to around back. There if you look you will find... More

This is a must see if you are in DC. A very cool exhibit that pictures don't really do justice to. It is huge and when you are around and in the exhibit it it amazing!

There isn't anything to do except see the statue. It is very crowded during the day, but empty and peaceful at nights. It is very close to the museums and other attractions so it is very easy to find.

Go early in the day (before 8am) before the tourist buses arrive. Climbing the stairs to the statue, look for the plaque that marks the spot where MLK stood to deliver his speech during the 1963 March on Washington. Once at the top, marvel at the marble, etc. etc. etc., and, before you descend, walk among the pillars to the... More
