Beautiful area year round with lots of great hikes and stops along the way, but best in the summer. If you plan to cross it in the winter make sure you have tire chains, check the DOT website first to check conditions, and do your research. It goes up to over 4000 ft and the weather can be dramatically different in the mountains. There are a few YouTube videos out there that will give you a short virtual tour including "Crossing Mountain Passes in the Winter - Driving Stevens Pass, Washington, USA"

If you are driving on a clear day Heybrook Lookout is a great stop for a short hike.

We drove through the Stevens Pass from Wenatchee towards Seattle. Lots of breathtaking scenery. When we first noticed the elevation signs we were over 3000 feet and that was after coming down a ways. Highly recommend.

Admittedly I do not do well driving mountain passes and this one is definitely no exception. The vista is quite incredible but there are several miles of scary road. I took that way from Leavenworth rather than go all the way around as I was heading to Snohomish and it was worth it but I certainly had to talk myself through not passing out.

The White Pass Scenic Byway passes through small communities, river valleys, and alpine county.

The region surrounding the byway includes privately-owned residential, agricultural, commercial and forestland properties, as well as state parks, wildlife areas, Rainier National Park, Mt. St. Helens National Monument and Mount Adams Wilderness Area.

One can witness the beauty of these giant peaks up close. Lots of hiking, although I did not have time for that. Very beautiful and roaring waterfalls, directly from the glaciers in April.

We drove this on a recent visit to Seattle. It was a foggy day with low clouds covering the peaks on the west side but I can imagine they are beautiful The route follows a beautiful river and active railroad line for some good rail photos shots. The east side of the pass was clear and sunny and even more beautiful seeing the active river and areas of past logging or wild fires. All of these US natural forests are special and should be treated with respect for nature so they will be here for another 100 years.

We lucked into this walk on our way back to Seattle after spending a few days in the Cascades, and it was the perfect end to our trip. This is an easy loop walk through a mature forest with incredible views of waterfalls. The trail is easy to follow, and has the benefit of explanations along the way (we finally found out why large trunks were left after the tree was cut down and why there were rectangular notched "holes" in the remaining trunks).

We hiked quite a bit in the Cascades, and I would call this walk a "must-do" (especially for families).

I've ridden through the Stevens Pass Scenic Byway too many times to count and it's still a treat to carve through the mountains and along the Skykomish River. There are many places to stop and take in the view or hike around and if coffee or snacks are needed, those can be found as well.

My two favorite places to stop on the Bypass are Skykomish and Leavenworth.
