In beautiful quite serene area about 5 miles off the interstate. Worth a visit. The room where Jackson died is almost as it was the day he died down to the clock which is still keeping time. The guide on duty was excellent and gave detailed and excellent information on the site. Highly recommended.

When you see the signs off 95 for the Stonewall Jackson Shrine, realize that it is about 5 miles off the exit. Once you get there, the signs don't really call out that the small white building is where Jackson died. As small as it is, there was a National Park Service Ranger who was there to provide details and... More

As routine travelers of Route 95, we often see the highway sign for The Stonewall Jackson Shrine but never had the time to make a stop. Fortunately, we did pay a visit on our last journey and we were glad we did. In need of a driving break we were pleasantly surprised by this remote park attraction not too far... More

Fingers down the spine experience. This is the site of Stonewall Jackson's death. The original house has gone, but the office building where Stonewall Jackson was taken after being injured is intact. The Ranger on duty was fabulous. He detailed the few days between Stonewall Jackson's injury and death in great depth and huge enthusiasm. Listening to him while looking... More

I've visited the Stonewall Jackson shrine several times and I always get cold chills. General Robert E Lee said about Jackson's death that "he had lost his right arm" and this was a serious blow to the South. This is the site where Jackson crossed over and rested under the shade of the trees. The NPS maintains this site and... More

This is part of the Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park. We visited late in the afternoon, the house was closed but the grounds were still open. The grounds were well kept, parking was ample and there was a separate building with restrooms. We walked around the house and peeked into the windows and saw the room where Jackson died.... More

While passing the sign on I-95 numerous times we decided to take a quick detour and check out the Stonewall Jackson Shrine. The Rangers were very informative and walking around the small outbuilding where Jackson passed was equally impressive. Be sure to check out the original clock on the mantle that was there on the day Jackson passed still ticking... More

We were visiting from England and called into here en route from Williamsburg to Washington. We had visited and toured Gettysburg and several other battlefields but this little house was just superb. There was no else there when we arrived at the tiny car park. The setting is so serene and calm. The term 'shrine' fits it perfectly. The rangers... More

If you are an American Civil War buff, this is a must see. If you are not, than you really need s connection to bring you all the way to the Shrine. It is a quick walk through and so if you gave small kids it is a good place to visit if you are doing a civil war tour.... More

I went quite a bit out of my way to go here, but, heck, I was already 600 miles from home. It is a nicely preserved building with a few rooms to view. The room where he died contains the actual bed, a blanket that he used, and the mantle clock that he looked at all those days and hours... More
