Plan on taking your time on the 1.2 mile road to the top and make sure you're in a vehicle that has reliable breaks for the trip back down. The views are breath taking. You can see Crazy Horse and Washington from Mt Rushmore, though easier to see if you bring binoculars or a camera with a quality zoom. We... More

The drive up was pretty cool, lots of steep road, sharp bends and the last bit is almost single track, but the view was not as billed. You really don't get a view of Mount Rushmore/Crazy Horse as the literature suggests, at least not something that is descernible as being them...they are way too far away to be recognisable. In... This lookout Tower was built in the 1940s by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) as a look-out for forest fires, and sits atop a 6023 foot mountain peak. It awards breathtaking and gorgeous 360-degree views of the surrounding Black Hills. Our tour-guide had brought binoculars, and through those we could see Mount Rushmore, the Needles, Crazy Horse and the Badlands... More

The drive up the hill was intense and just when we thought we were near the top, there was more! I am a little wimpy when it comes to heights! When we arrived at the top, I was thinking about my mechanics offhand comment about my brakes needing some work in the future, so....I didn't enjoy the 6,000+ feet view... More

And up a narrow, gravel road that went up and up. When I thought we were about at the top, there was more And the views as others. Have said are spectacular. There is an installed telescope but I used my camera to look at mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse and the needles.

This is well worth the visit for panoramic views of The Black Hills. You can see the Crazy Horse Memorial, Mount Rushmore, Harney Peak, the Needles and the Badlands. The drive up was straightforward on a good quality dirt road.

The drive up is full of switchbacks without guardrails. My mother-in-law kept her eyes closed the whole time but the rest of the family loved it! Once you're up top it's actually a little dizzying! The tower is at an elevation of more than 6,000 ft and you KNOW it when you're up there. Everything looks so far away! It's... More

The road up is only about a mile long, but it is dirt with switchbacks and no guard rails. I know this bothers some people, but take your time. It's worth it. At the tower at the summit, you can get a panoramic view of the Black Hills, Badlands, Ellsworth AFB, the Needles and, with good enough binoculars, Crazy Horse... More

The drive up is terrifying and the drive down isn't much better. And I'm saying the AFTER driving Iron Mtn and Needles highways! But the view is so worth it!!!!! Elevation is 6023, so it's a bit lower than Mt Harney.

Very narrow road up to the lookout. ..But when you get there, you can see for miles upon miles. ...Bring your binocular! Great history, amazing view. Does have a bathroom!
