We were definitely glad we got to the park early as it was quite crowded as we finished our hike. We hiked High Shoals Falls Loop and started on the left hand side of the loop, making the beginning of the hike all upstairs to get to the top of the waterfall, but we liked that few people went that... This place was far better than what I expected. The trails are beautiful and picturesque with a few waterfalls here and there. There is plenty of parking and picnic tables as well as decent bathrooms at the beginning. Keep in mind most phones won't have any reception so having an offline navigation for your way back is a good idea.

We visited South Mountains SP for the first time last week. There is much here to be enjoyed by anyone looking for an experience away from touristy crowds and over-used outdoor enjoyments. But we went for the equestrian camping, and found the accommodations in our campground to be first-rate. Every campsite has electricity, and ours even had a water spigot... More

First make sure you have directions to and from the park. There isn't any cell service for the trip home. Second carry water and drink it while hiking before you get dehydrated. It snuck up on me and I almost passed out. The water fall wasn't that special but the pools and boulders were worth the trip.

I have been to this place approximately 15 times, and I can say this place is amazing! If you have some kind of stair climbing disability the main trail going up to the waterfall is not for you. Be prepared to tackle multiple fleets of wooden stairs , so keep that in mind when going with small children because you... More

This state park is really a gem and you can see many locals visiting here for a picnic or a quick visit to the falls. The high Shoals loop trail is classified as “strenuous” and I believe it is so because of the many steps and incline along the way. But it is actually totally manageable and I saw plenty... More

This place is gorgeous. Very nice bathrooms too. We only stayed the night but I'd definitely go back here. It was further off the interstate than my phone map led me to believe but it was worth it. Park Ranger was so sweet and helpful!

South Mountain State Park has been one of my favorite places for 30+ years. I've been here multiple times and I never grow tired of it. This place is gorgeous and well kept. It is a tough hike with lots of steep steps but the climb is well worth it The trail is easy to follow with lots of spots... More

This place is just Awesome. Our grandchildren just loved it. They have Camping Sites and a lot of picnic tables to. Lost of trails, horse trails as well.

We headed to the South Mountains State Park to trek some of the waterfalls and we were ecstatic. The trek to the High Shoal falls was wonderful and the trail itself had rocks, narrow bridges, tree stumps and steps to climb up. There are portions of the waterfall where you can take a deviation and dip your toes in cool... More
