Beautiful Colorado moutainous scenic highway

We absolutely loved Cottonwood Pass (CR 306). We took it from the Collegiate Peaks Scenic Byway US 285. The elevation at the pass is 12,126' and the views are outstanding.

I say this rather tongue in cheek, for it is such a beautiful mountainous drive, and with all the stops along the way to ooh & aah, possibly it makes for a very long drive. But worth it. After leaving the main road between Crested Butte and Gunnison we entered a gravel road and thought this would be how it... More

My first trip up Cottonwood Pass. I choose a perfect day of beautiful Fall colors and full sunshine. When you arrive at the Summit take a few moments to look around and enjoy the 360 degree views. This is a very special places for locals to come and be thankful they live near this place.

Beautiful drive through the mountains to get there. It's probably a 20 minute drive from Buena Vista. You are right above the tree line so you get some great views. It is a little chilly in October so you might want to bring a jacket and there was snow on the ground. There are also some hiking trails up there... More

This road is closed every winter, and will be closed for all of 2017 - maybe longer. Currently the road on the west side of the pass is a gravel road with many curves - so a major construction project is starting next spring in order to straighten the road out some and hard-surface it. When the road is open,... More

If you're in the area this is a must do. Easy quick drive up to the pass with incredible views of the Collegiate Peaks and over towards Taylor Park Reservoir.

This was a great drive! At the top you should definitely stop at the Continental divide, on the other side the dirt road is a bit tight, but we were easily able to make the descent.

My family and I go to Taylor Park almost yearly. We love it there and i believe the best part of it is Cottonwood Pass. It is a really windy road and not very easy to pass people when you have a truck and trailer, but (to me) it's worth the drive. We have taken it when it was raining... More

We drove through this pass from Gunnison to Buena Vista, hoping to shave hours off of our road trek to Colorado Springs. We were somewhat dubious that we could make it in our Malibu, as the car has very little clearance, but we were delighted to find that it was an easy drive. The pass was listed in some of... More
