I always wonder how it is to work on one of these small museums within national parks. Even though Kelso Depot is not even located hours away from the closest towns, it still is pretty isolated. The exhibition is informative and even though we stopped with no big expectations, we left satisfied. It's interesting to see the place that is... More

Very nice place. There are bathrooms outside and inside. Make sure to take a few minutes and walk through the inside. They sell a couple of drinks (Gatorade, Coke) but no other snacks (that we saw). This is not a place to stop and have some food. There were a couple of souvenirs, but nothing that said Kelso Depot on... More

In the middle of the Mojave desert on the cross roads of highway and train track lies Kelso once a vital link in the rail system since it housed all the helper pusher locomotives that helped the longest trains make it up the gradient out of the valley. Now a well presented NPS museum and visitor center it portrays the... More

The reserve is a nice drive through the high desert, but this stop sort of explains how a town could exist out here in the desert. It was a watering and refueling (?) station, but provided extra locomotives to make the climb out. The station is sort of frozen in time, and worth a stop. The exhibits are modest, but... More

What a great job they did restoring this train station. The museum inside the station is greta, lots of artifacts to check out. Loved the history of the town. A must stop/visit if you find yourself in the area.

Kelso Depot is off the beaten path.... way off the beaten path. When you're sure you're in the middle of nowhere, look around because your close to the depot. It has a small, but interesting gift shop/visitors center as well as a small museum. The diner is closed because they can't find someone that wants to operate it. If you... More

A very interesting museum - with artefacts displayed well. Ensure you provide yourself with drinks and food for your trip as nothing is available at the depot

The old railroad depot has been restored to better than new condition with an excellent museum inside along with an ample parking lot for cars, buses and RVs. Nice landscaping with tables and BBQs make it great to visit for a few minutes to a few hours. The federal employee is very knowledgable on the depot's history as well as... More
