Nothing like hopping on amtrak to take a trip to San Diego for the day. Lots of beautiful scenery along the way and old town San Diego is a must to see. Great to take out of town guests.

Used the Surfliner for our trip from Anaheim to San Diego. Went business class as we were on holiday and throughly enjoyed our 2 hour trip. Great views and snacks were sufficient.

For weekend travelers from OC and LA, Amtrak Pacific Surfliner sure beats driving. No traffic jams, relaxed sitting, unlimited ocean views.

Needed to get up & down the So Cal coast for business & didn't want to rent a car & fight traffic. The Surfliner was an absolutely *awesome* option for getting around & I intend to use it more often now. Upgraded to the business...More

We recently took the Surfliner from Irvine to San Diego. We booked Business Class, which I am not sure is worth it. You can not book your seat, so luckily we found a table we could sit together. The cabin attendant was HORRIBLE! This old...More

If I could give negative stars I would. Yesterday's round trip to Los Angeles from SanDiego was the trip from hell. Trains 565 and 764. Both trains broke down and each trip was delayed by at least 2 hours. No information from conductors, no clue...More

We are very sorry about the delays that occurred during your trip. On April 15, when you traveled, Train 565 was delayed due to a track inspection north of Oceanside and waiting for southbound trains to pass. Train 784 had mechanical issues, and had to...More

Recently took the pacific surfliner from SD to LA. I learned a few things researching, planning for and executing this trip: 1. Coach seats are as advertised, unreserved. So first come first served. And it's possible some will be standing for the duration of the...More

Pacific Ocean and mountain views from Ventura to San Luis Obispo are worth experiencing sitting back in business class of the train instead of driving. Coach cars may turn into standing room only as it is a commuter train also. Business has reserved seats but...More

I am wanting to travel from Union Station LA to San Diego. If I buy a ticket online does it have to be for a specific time train or can the ticket be used for any trains that day? My flight lands at 6.55 am into LAX but not sure how long immigration, and the transfer to Union Station will take? Thanks

Couple of questions: 1) We want to take this train for the scenic views - does it matter whether we take it Northbound from San Diego to San Luis Obispo or Southbound from San Luis Obispo to San Diego? 2) Is there a observation car in this train? 3) For the business class, are the seats assigned?

Hi there. 1) Doesn't matter direction you go. What matters most is what side of the train you sit on (port or starboard side) depending on direction of travel. Just know that if you are on the starboard (right) side of... More

I plan to take the pacific surfliner at 9.55 from Union Station LA to San Diego. Questions are : will it be crowded? Is business class better? If I book online can I change to another time - say the 11.10 (or around that time) if I miss the 9.55? How good are the views?

Hi Terry, that train is generally not very crowded, but it depends on when you are traveling. We tend to be busier on weekends, during the summer, or when there are popular events. Our Twitter page regularly shares updates... More
