The drive is about 20 miles long but there are many entry and exit points onto Hwy 101 if you run out of time. Pick up a leaflet at the North Entrance on the 9 stopping points. I would rate this above the drive in Prairie Creek section of the park.

If you ever go to Redwoods National Park north of Arcata, CA and the little town of Orick, you will see the tallest trees in the world. The actual tallest one on earth is a little bit of a hike into the national park and you need permission from the rangers to walk there in order to control the amount... More

It is my 4th visit and these trees never fail to amaze me. It is a great drive and there is a lot to see along the way. It is a great feeling to walk through the Trees and be at peace with yourself

We drove through the Avenue of the Giants on a rainy day! This was a perfect opportunity to still see the beauty and grandeur of the Redwoods from the dry car :) We were able to get out at many of the pull offs along the route and hiked into the woods without getting too wet under the cover of... Should occupy at least half the day, hiking will be longer. There are numerous named groves and each seemed to have a trail. Each we tried had a trail that was typical of a wooded, mountainous trail found in every state park. Some were level and easy, some were challenging with steep, slippery slopes BUT all were simply gorgeous.

Stunning drive through groves of redwoods. My only regret is we didn't have time to stop and hike. Visitors center for Humboldt state park was very interesting too.

We visit the north coast every couple of years and NEVER miss driving the Ave of the Giants. The trees are breathtaking, no picture or description can capture the beauty of this ancient forest. Once you step out of your vehicle, your senses are inundated with smell of the trees and cool moist air, even on hot summer days the... More

The Avenue of the Giants parallels US 101 and is a magnificent drive. Make sure you stop at the Humboldt Redwoods State Park Headquarters. There is a cross section of a Coastal Redwood out front with significant dates labeled at the tree’s rings with the first labeled “1000 Vikings discover North America.” The third largest Coastal Redwood is across the... Drove from San Diego to drive by & experience the magnitude of these giants... must do. A lot of hiking trails just off the road with parking areas.
